You can obviously change the gearbox mount if you want, that should fix it for a considerable number of years. It just depends and how annoying it is and how much you are willing to spend.

My 1.8 has some vibration as well. Not too much, but definitely can feel it. My father's 1.8, with a considerable low mileage (only 30000 miles) feels a lot better.

Seths problem may be different. Maybe a cable or something is vibrating in the chassis. This should be investigated as it is an easy fix. Seth, you should try giving it a good punch in the area you hear the vibration to see if it at goes away at least for the time you punch it. If it doesn't chances are it's the gearbox mount.

Could be that. I've got a little bit of a rattle coming from behind the glovebox too when cold, Seth151. My wife took it to Fiat and they checked the engine mount and the rubbers seemed fine. They investigated an exhaust mount and they sealed it or something and that did sort it for a few days but its come back however its not as loud. However like vladof said it could be some wires, thats what I was told by Fiat too.

So you could have the exhaust mounts checked and possibly some wires rattling under the trim carpet.

Thats how mine is, rattles when cold but in warmer weather its not there. Does yours fade when you've driven round for a bit?

Mine's the same - I think maybe the mound "stiffens" up a bit, then after a bit of working, it loosens - I tend to get the rattle in the morning after the car has been standing overnight, but not if I drive the car after it's been standing for only a few hours. It happens in the warm weather as well as now, so it's not particularly related to the outside temperature.

Just a guess but could the heat from the engine be warming the rubber of the mount making it more effective at absorbing vibration? Rubber goes quite hard when cold.

Can somebody help me with a Multijet VIN code ? I need to use it for ordering an engine mount for my 115bhp jtd, and i want to buy directly a Multijet one, even if the jtd one has been improved

Thanks

can't you get the VIN from your own stilo? it's not the kind of thing to publish on an open forum

The cure to the cold-only glove-box rattle is a new improved Fiat engine mount. I read it here, did it, fixed it 100% :)

out of intrest how much was it?, ive got to do my clutch shorly and thinking of thowing a new mount in just because its off (and hopefully save any future work)
cheers

I got a quote last year & was told the part was in the region of £50. My particular garage wanted an hours labour to do it but they said they'd not had another before so it might take less time. If you're doing it yourself and/or the car's gonna be in bits anyway then i guess this isn't relevant, but to those that it may be, i'd budget in the region of £100 for supply & fitting.

I've never had mine done as it hasn't annoyed me quite enough & i've always had something else to take my money, though if i decide against trading in the Stilo this year i think i'll probably get it done.

yes i can, but i want a VIN from a multijet, where the mount was improved from the start.

I think the already improved mount that you can get for your engine now is better. The engines are different and there's no guarantee that it will even fit.

Nobody is going to post the vin number on the forum. I will try to check EPER later tonight to check out different mounts for engine compatibility.

This can also be done at the AUTOITALIA site, as they are using the same software. You should be able to ask the dealer for the exact engine mount and they should be able to identify which engine mount is for the JTD 16V engine. They will not, however, recommend that you install that on the JTD 115.
