Axel the Sisley 4x4

Hi All, as you may be aware I purchased a certain Sisley 4x4 from @onemanmade a week ago.

It was a long (ish) trip up north of the boarder but well worth the trip!

We made it back without too many hitches, first problem was I brimmed the tank and subsequently lost several liters after it seemed to just come straight out the top of the tank. Don't know if something hasn't been fitted correctly after the tank was taken off or I did try to squeeze a little too much in causing it to come out the over flow :P Second issue found on our way back was as well as the clutch bearing being noisy (which we knew of) the clutch is slipping big time, you can accelerate if you do it carefully but if you just plant your foot the engine just revs and the clutch disengages.

Anyhoo I knew it would be a rolling project and the fact its had all the welding done means its a very good place to start

So lets crack on with some pictures!

Meeko also had to inspect, she approves

So a 'To Do' list is in order:
Clutch
Fan switch mod
Lift Kit
Swap bull bars
Roof Rack
Plumb in the CB
Second set of wheels (with chunky offroad tyres)
A spare numberplate for our trailer!
Investigate Fuel tank
Investigate Temperature issue
Adjust Handbrake

PS: Some of you may have noticed I have changed the name! Can anyone guess my theme yet?

Re: Axel the Sisley 4x4

hmm i have got to ask.. swap bull bars??! they look awesome!

the temp may be ok.. i would just change the sensor first. Talon sits with the needle pointing strait up on 90 but does creep over to about 100 before the fan kicks in.
fallout seems to run a little hotter, but i put that down to the temp gauge in the dash as the original engine ran "hot".. all pandas seem to run at different temperatures. :/

im not sure with the fuel tank issue.. the only thing i can guess is the fuel tank sender seal has perished, or the top fuel tank breather pipe has come undone they do just pull off if not tightened up enough.

get yourself some weller 8 spoke wheels.. and stick some huge tyres on them.. then take lots of pictures of them on the car... (just so i can see how good they look so i can do that with mine >_<)

i really want to lift fallout, but a few things have put me off.. mostly its the cost of that damn gearbox flange. the rest of the stuff is just nylon spacers.. however for the rear you could just lengthen the rear shackles. i have seen people "worry" that the prop shafts UJ's cant handle the changed angle it causes but to be honest, it IS what they are designed to do.. and i think they would take a much more severe angle and still work fine for many years/miles.

i REALLY recommend those pressed metal plates.. with some cheap number plate holders they look so good. Talon is going to get some when i have some cash spare.

you'll have to tell me what CB you have heh. i really recommend a bull bar mounted aerial. Talons 9 ft aerial really cracks out. when the conditions are right i get the US no problem.. lately i've been speaking to folk on the islands in the Mediterranean

when you do the clutch change (if you do it yourself) just make sure when you are aligning the box back to the engine to rotate the rear prop shaft a bit while its in gear. it will make it oh so much more easy to line up the gearbox input shafts splines to the clutch plate bolted to the engine.

i wonder if the 1.2 clutch will fit on the 999cc engine... that would be a nice upgrade

Re: Axel the Sisley 4x4

I second Dragonman on temperature issues, unless you're sure its not just the gauge. Char's sometimes dances about all over the place, fan normally cuts in when the gauge is reading 95 but sometimes it'll cut in at 85 on the gauge but then when it cuts back out the gauge is reading 90
I just think the gauge has a mind of its own, never shown signs of boiling the coolant however and no adverse affects on the running of the engine

no, 1.0 is 170mm , 1.2 is 180mm{also most 1.1, but some has 170mm clutch , like uno60 1.1fire} , bigger clutch pressure plate{ and its bolt-to-flywheel nuts pattern} different bolt patern of 6 bolts fastenning the flywheel to the crank.

Next time when you see them, tell them that they are wrong. That only applies to vehicle sold as new after May 2007, That when the EU Directive 2005/66/EC came into live and banned Bullbars and replaced them with Frontal Protection Systems Unless you guys have some National Law.

Re: Axel the Sisley 4x4

It must be the Tropical Green Sisley thing, mine reads axactly same.

Rad fan kicks in at 115*C at the dial.
Only gauge hasn't been change, No bad symphoms, but bloody hard to cope with when you have acces to different panda.

Is the fan working poperly? If it is then it'll most likely be the guage that is out and nothing to worry about as the others have said. No harm in confirming that with a thermometer though, it's exactly what I would do
