Panda (Classic) SEAT Marbella (Mk1 Panda replica).

Re: SEAT Marbella (Mk1 Panda replica)

Have you replaced the rear shocks ?

Yeah, watch out Lewey...here I come  But to be honest I am not out the woods yet, just another clue to the jetting puzzle!

Regarding the shocks, they are standard and probably shot!! So theyre high up on "the list"

Yes that leaf spring suspension doesn't do much to help extend the life of the shocks.

Re: SEAT Marbella (Mk1 Panda replica)

1.25, that makes mine sound a bit slow. I'd like to put it down to inexperience on my part and blame myself not the car at this stage...

To be fair I have done over 100laps of Combe  and the Clio is a very good car out on track and was surprising quite a few track as well as race cars ;)

first, the question - are your all cars pandas and marbella?
second - I don't see why you try to improve handling on the car that's made to go safely only in straight line, 10 % come oooooon, not big change, it remains the same ****. I also have black marbella, (was white but painted after fixed from rust) and it is ok for city use, this isn't the car to exeggerate with. Accelerates decently to 60 km (40mph), good enough for city use, narrow so easy to parki n tight streets where I live in and that's it. Nothing personal, but you overdid it quite a bit

They are fun cars as you have found out. Making them a little faster makes for an even more fun car. I don't think anyone is taking themselves seriously. I bought some off the shelf suspension for my Panda and it goes round corners well enough to chase stuff on a track. The emphasis is on fun and cost. Video of mine going round a track:

Re: SEAT Marbella (Mk1 Panda replica)

I get the point, they have a lot of character but I don't see them as a race cars, anyway what changes you've done if you can say it briefly

C'MON!! Its just a bit of fun :p. You are taking life waaaay too seriously
Glad to hear you are making use of your marbella though, they are great value little cars. I thoroughly enjoy driving my 4x4's and with my Marbella...the look on peoples faces when I out accelerate some rather expensive cars on the road is absolutely priceless!! :slayer: I've spent very little money on the car relatively speaking, so any car I beat on the track or at any event is a bonus. :D

As Lewey has pointed out, its just a bit of low cost entertainment. Shame you can't understand that but each to their own I supose.

Nothing wrong with having a hobby. Everyone has their vices ;)

I like cars so I can understand essentialy when someone treat their car(s) with love and respect. still, I think that people should be rational but if you didn't spend too much money on it (if you have millions it isn't important) than it's ok.
when we're about it, is your engine original with 40 hp?
and about handling, I can say that light backside makes its back wheels drift unlike modern front drive cars that drift with front wheels. today, on downhill bend, relatively sharp, at about 40 mph or a bit less back wheels squealed but just a bit, nothing unsafe. I run it on 145's rather than factory 135 that I consider too thin.
now I would like to ask you one 'expert' question since you are real enthusiast: my car is '87. so it has regular ancient carb, not cat converter so it doesn't run on unleaded fuel. in my country, unlike many others in europe where it happened long ago, they stopped making leaded petrol. I read that some lubricanst that should be poured into gas tank should help when unleaded is used because unleaded is bad for valves of this ancient engines. still, at least for now, there isn't that thing here. in my country there are a lot 21st century last generations of boxy pandas but all of them have that fire el. ignition engine. so, do you have some advice about it, will unleaded burn my poor little engine :(

Original engine was 40hp, very good reliable engines and very free reving too. If your worried about your valves just buy fuel additives. They are called "lead replacement" or something to that effect and you add it every time you fill up.

Re: SEAT Marbella (Mk1 Panda replica)

If your car has the 903cc engine it should run on unleaded anyway

Re: SEAT Marbella (Mk1 Panda replica)

I think it is 903 rather than 899. and yes, when I said lubricanst I actualy ment on additives, I know that, it's hard to find though I hope it will appear on market

Re: SEAT Marbella (Mk1 Panda replica)

does indirect steering bothers you? I mean you do have to turn it a lot considering car's size

Re: SEAT Marbella (Mk1 Panda replica)

Well I have to admit that I thought the engine would let go first but I was wrong!! I am now officially shopping for a new differential for the Y10 Turbo gearbox!! It has locked and is quite a fight with the steering wheel!! I was towed back from Pembrey race circuit (I was watching my dad race and it went about 5 minutes after I left to go home!!) Bit of a shame but I won't be taking it to the RWYB at shakespeare county raceway now, I think thats now a given! I might try to get there just to say anyway though but wont be camping over as I had planned.

I've now got to push the 4x4 through its MOT as I am 'car'less too!!! lol

A question to Lewey / Damon...can I get an LSD for this and or where can I take the gearbox to get it rebuilt? I am probably going down the straight cut gear route now (all but 5th at least) and as I am going to miss all events this year now probably I'll be rebuilding the engine to make sure thats all good too. Also I'll be able to find out a bit more about what the hell has been done to this engine to give the power/torque its acheiving.

I am not sure what I would do with my time if I didnt have this car!! :D

Hmmm. Some inspired driving perhaps? It's a good effort to break the diff. Shows how much torque you are developing. It's running too well!

Rebuilt box with straight gears from a specialist has got to be well over £1000 these days. Have you got a price? Doesn't seem worth it to me, unless this is going to be a really long term relationship.

As far as a new differential goes, the box is a unique type I believe as no car other than the 127 got the Brazil OHCs. I don't have my technical manual anymore and my memory of my Y10 Turbo that never was is fading, so I can't remember what actual gearbox it has now. I reckon it will be a normal Panda/Y10 box with a special bellhousing? In which case a diff will be easy to find, and a cheap fix. Got any pictures or do you know?

If Damon hasn't got NOS competition for me, I'll be staying at home on Halloween!
