and I need help from you fellow FF'ers with what it could have been about!

I was at my sisters house for a couple of hours, parked where I usually park outside her house (no double yellows, no parking restrictions etc). When I got home, my dad told me that a couple of plain clothed officers had been to the door and asked me if he owned a black Fiat Bravo. He said no, and that I did. They asked him if he knew where it was parked, and he said that it'll be at his other daughters house. They said fair enough and that they just wanted to make sure he knew that it was parked there.

Why would they have done this? My dad reckons 'cause I've painted the wheel trims that it's "an attraction" and looks like a boy racers car (despite this being the only feature which makes it look different), which would make them think it was up to no good despite being stationary. My sister reckons a neighbour might have reported it, but I can't see why as cars park in the same spot there every day, and it doesn't cause any obstruction to other road users.

I don't even know if I can call them and ask them why it had been reported, or why they had took notice of it. Anyone care to guess/anyone know if I can ring them and they'll tell me?

Why would they have done this? My dad reckons 'cause I've painted the wheel trims bright pink :slayer: that it's "an attraction" and looks like a boy racers car (despite this being the only feature which makes it look different), which would make them think it was up to no good, but it's not as if they're easy to see in the pitch black anyway. could be a million reasons.
there was a story here just last weekabout a guy getting caught stealing fuel.
after the police called him to advise him his car had been seen in an industrial area that night and asking if he knew it was there.

Plain clothed officers?

Ringing alarm bells already. Have you upset someone recently who knows what your car looks like? Looks like your dad has confirmed where you live though, nice of him lol.

Probably was some nosey git living nearby who didn't like the look of your car. We have one lives over the road from us, and every time we have visitors, he can be seen curtain twitching. I've even caught him writing down the car's reg numbers before :tosser: Wouldn't mind so much, but they're always parked on our drive! I suspect yours is a similar issue.

I would definitely call the police. After all, you've got nothing to hide. Orrrrrrr have you........ ;)

I bloody well hope it's not like that, I'm just a 19 year old girl, I'm too young in my driving career to get in to bother!

MJ; I know, that's what bugged me. I was literally parked outside her house, you would've thought they'd have come a'knockin'! I'm the registered keeper of the vehicle so why ask my dad if he owned it. I don't have any known enemies, but if I did I would've thought it to be a pointless thing to do anyway...

Dominion: I am an occasional drugs mule and transport illegal immies in my HGV every day. Maybe that's why they're suspicious?

If anyone claims to be a copper I'd always ask to see their badge, take a note of the name and number, don't worry about wasting their time, just grap a pen and notepad and jot it down just in case.

Only after they produce the relevant information do I then consider them as police.

This sounds dodgy, if they located your address by PNCing the vehicle they would also have the registered keepers name to hand. Call the local non emergency number and give your name and index, if this was a legitimate enquiry they would have a 'job reference' with the index on it so it should be easily traced.
There are a few legitimate reasons they could of made the enquiry about BUT it's very strange that they attended non uniformed.

Exactly what he said.

Also if there is record of real police attending it would be worth reporting it as the people in question have been impersonating a police officer which is a serious offence

MJ: my dad says they "flashed their badge" but really, it couldve been a toy badge and false documents for all he knows - he didnt take any notes down, stupidly.

is it insured with you as main driver or dad?

I own the car and its insured in my name, so i wouldve thought theyd ask to speak to me rather than him, who couldve been anyone for all they know.

Im gonna call them tomorrow guys, thanks for the advice. its really bugging me. Never had this happen with my old cars, or anyone i know for that matter. Ill post an update tomorrow, quite looking forward to hear what the alleged police have to say...

It maybe you’re describing two cop pervs on a frolic of their own. If they’re on legit business they can use the PNC to check on a car - & they’d know very well the car was yours. If they’re not legit they’d have to avoid using that – as (*others have found) it’s illegal to use the system for their own personal `needs’

I would suggest asking around your 19yo girl-friends for their negative experiences with Northumbria et al policemen.

A former g/f (an airline stewardess) advised she was regularly followed home by traffic cops `concerned’ she got home safe & hinting on the prospect of `coffee’ at her place.

An attractive colleague at work advised a cop turned-up at her home to return the sleeve from her driving licence `accidently’ left behind at the station. Her husband held the view that if the sleeve had been from his licence the cop wouldn’t have been so diligent.

If you believe they were on a mission outside their duty – then complain to the Professional Standards Unit to have it investigated.

Sooo, been to the police station and told them the story. Apparently thered been a few cars broken in to the night before in that area and they were double checking everything was alright, and there was nothing come up dodgy on the PNC.How odd.

What area was this? If it was within the 'Met' area there is chance it was a plain clothed 'motor vehicle crime' unit. Still a bit odd though.
