Hello,

I am new to this forum. I have got a couple of questions concerning my Grande Punto 1.4 T-JET 2007. At the Dutch Fiat forum they could't help me, so hopefully you guys can help me out! :)

1. P0443 Evaporative Emission Control System Purge Control Valve Circuit

The engine light it triggered by this fault code. I can't find any solution to this problem on the internet. I think that the valve which would be mounted on the EVAP box is defect or not working properly. The problem is that I can't find the EVAP box haha... Does some of you now where this box is located? Or am I looking at the wrong component?

2. C0033 and C0034 ABS/ ASR/ ESP/ Hill holder (ABS speed sensor front , right)

My ABS, ASR, ESP/ hill control is not working. The lights at the dashboard are switched on. The fault codes displayed a faulty speed sensor at the right front wheel. I have replaced this ABS sensor without any improvement.

Are there things that I can check? Maybe the wiring, the ABS ring in the fuse or could it be the ABS pump? I am a bit worried that when I bring the car to a Fiat dealer the will ask disproportionately high amount of money.

Thanks in advance for the replies and the help!

Regards,

Ruben

Hi and welcome to Fiat Forum,
First check the battery voltage and carfully inspect the battery ground and enging ground leads for corrosion. This can cause multiple electrical faults.
Next get a registered copy of Multiecuscan www.multiecuscan.net, and ELM 327 interface and adaptor leads e.g.e ebay item
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/152482402020

This will give much more information and allow you to operate valves and actuators. You can downloade MES and run it in "Simulate" to play with it before buying a lead or paying the registration fee (€50).
Much cheaper than a main dealer diagnostic session.

Thanks for the reply!

I have already checked the battery voltage and every single earthing point. I don't think that there is anything wrong with those.

Good advice for the diagnostic set at Ebay. Problem is I think that the seller won't ship to the Netherlands. I have found this object and think it is the same, can you take a look at it?

Hi Ruben and welcome on the Forum,

the evaporator solenoïd is located between engine and the firewall behind the airbox. You should access it from underneath the car (see picture)
Regarding MES/FES, any ELM 327 adapter will read the ECU, some of them will have problems if you use the yellow adapter cable or modify your Interface to read the additional CAN that Fiat uses to read the body , steering, etc computers. Your ABS sensor fault can come from defect wiring or phonic wheel in the hub...

Hi,
Yes that will work OK and gives you access to all Fiat cars with a 16 pin OBD port. The KL interface is needed for some functions on older cars.

About the ABS malfunction, is it a common problem that the phonic hub/ ABS ring has an malfunction? The ABS signal goes from the sensor all the way to the ABS pump? Are there connectors that are worth it to check?

Thanks.

Hi,
I don't know the Punto set-up, but sensor failures are not unknown. Corrosion ofr the target (phonic wheel or gear) can also be an issue. Did the old sensor look like the phonic wheel hd been rubbing on it?
Corroded connectors are a common problem with this type of sensors, eiter the socket the sensor plugs into or the ABS unit plug aorany inbetween but it's unusual for front one to have additional connecors in line.

Hi,
I believe there is only one connector in the wheel arch, then straight to the ABS block... You could check for continuity with an ohm meter or if not equipped, a 9v square battery and a bulb on the other end... (disconnect first !!) Cheaper than a new bearing with phonic wheel or transmission shaft !

Thanks guy for the replies.

First I have checked the purge/ EVAP valve. Thanks for the information, very small and hided very well by Fiat at the back of the motor haha. When applying 12V directly to the valve nothing happens. Looks like the valve is defect. I will order a new one.

Than the ABS, checked the wiring and the sensors (already replaced the right sensor). I have checked three sensor and all of them had approximately the same resistance. I think I will order a new wheel bearing with ABS ring.
During driving I can sometimes feel the valves in the ABS pumps working when I brake for the first time, so it looks like the pump does something but the signal is not right.

If there are more suggestions, please let me know.

Thanks.

Hi Ruben, thanks for the feedback !

- have you checked the solenoid with DC and in both ways ?
- the ABS sensor may be static or dynamic, not sure the resistance check is relevant...
- the phonic wheel may be on the bearing OR on the shaft itself, be carefull when ordering !

Hello guys,

Before I forget I want to give you a quick update on the problems and hopefully I can help someone else.

The engine failure, I located the purge valve and tested it with a 12V power supply. It didn't work. So I called the Fiat dealer. A new one would cost me more than 350 euros! On the valve was a Bosch number so I ordered one from internet for 50 euros. The Bosch number was a little different than the original one. The one I ordered: 0 280 142 336.
The only thing I had to do was to change the bracket of the purge valve. The valve itself was the same.

About the ABS fault: I changed the ABS sensor and after that I've replaced the ABS ring + wheel bearing. Both of them didn't help unfortunately. In the end it was just a interruption in the ABS wire. The interruption was in the wheel fearing, where the ABS wire goes in (going towards the ABS pump).

Thanks guys for the good help.

Greets,

Ruben
