Hi guys,

I've been trying to fix this for the past month (only free on weekends) and have gone as far as I could with the help of this forum and the internet all together. Forgive me if the answer is already out there, I've looked as much as I could.

Now the problem...
Ever since I've bought the car (2 months ago), the heater direction knob hasn't worked. I've opened everything up, fiddled around and have come to the conclusion that the gears were stuck. I then noticed, by looking at other images on the net, that the gears are way out of alignment.

The picture below shows the gears after fiddling with them a little. People have been talking about aligning them using the direction arrows on them. I can only see an arrow on the white piece and not on the black. Also, the black gear is very stiff and does not move without some force.

I'm basically stuck and do not know where to go from here. Any kind of help is appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi, I din't know the answer.. but it looks to me.. as if the cable on the LHS pulls + pushes the WHITE control through a short ARC,
this drives the BLACK gear, which directly drives the BLACK control through an almost identical ARC,

disconnect the cable,
see if it all moves together,

do you know the history of the car..??,
the rusty/ corroded metal suggests it may have been neglected,

have you emptied the area of the Fan motor for debris / rubbish..??,

Charlie

Hi did you manage to get the issue sorted out as would be really intrested to know how as have the same issue at present thanks

Looks to me like the intermediate (transfer) sproket is broken, the black segment is probably driving a flap inside the white thingy to direct the air flow where you want it; it's possibly stuck in position, thus having broken the black gear, or it happend opposite way ... disconnect everything as Charlie suggested and see it it all move individually. And then tell us !

Regards, Bernie
