Rev gauge (clockwise or anti-clockwise)

Hi All,

I have read somewhere before, but i cannot find it anywhere now.

I have read that the rev counter needle was moving clockwise on some models and then anticlockwise ....

What is the difference between the two (is it year of manufacture , country sold ) ???

Please can u help with insignificant but important question. ?

Thanks,

George

Re: Rev gauge (clockwise or anti-clockwise)

Hi, I had a 1980 X/1 9 1500 and the rev counter went anticlockwise in the opposite direction to the speedo) thought they were all like that! Did Escort XR3i's do the same?:

Re: Rev gauge (clockwise or anti-clockwise)

It's my understanding that only the 1300s and the very early 1500 had clockwise rotating tachometers, the rest of the production run had anti-clockwise tach's. The tach rotation direction was changed because the raised and offset seating-position in the 1500 (due to thicker padded seats?) made it impossible to see the 4K to 7.5K rpm range.

Re: Rev gauge (clockwise or anti-clockwise)

my '79 1500 5spd, manufacture date DEC 1978 had the clock wise tach, but i removed the gauge cluster and added one from a '81, that runs counter clock. if your looking for a clock -wise tach let me know and we can figure out somthing.(note this is the "late"clock-wise tach. the early style were silver/blk and looked "buck rogers"-ish. the one i have looks like a normal "fiat" x1/9, not the bertone style.
