General retrimming doorcards

General retrimming doorcards

I've retrimmed mine with impact adhesive and a thick cotton fabric. Looks ok - better than the crap that was there originally.

The best material should be fairly stretchy and hard wearing. Alacantra prob would be the best IMO.

To do it, just take off all the bits (handles, window winders etc) and cut the fabric a little larger than the door card. Put strategic blobs of impact adhesive on the front and stretch the fabric over the door card. The just glue down the ends on the back of the door. Then if you wanted, you could black stitch it in the middle using a leather needle or something - just to add some detailing

I stapled the material to the back of the doorcard with small 4mm staples, its only made of hardboard and might be a bit stronger than glue.

You prob dont need to glue the material to the front of the doorcard as the handle, door pocket, etc would keep the material in place.

Ive done mine in anthracite leather with red stitching (well my Dad did!)

i might go for the pray glue option and maybe staple it down on the other side for a deffinate secure hold (y)

are there any other materials that i could use other than the sheets of "leather" that are avaulable??

not sure what look i want, just something different to what is already there lol. i was thinking either red or black being as my uno is red. or possibly a charcole colour.......

chris i looked through that site and ahve taken a liking to the "suede"
if i use this is it totally important that i include the sewing/stitching detail on the doorcards or will the fabric just mould to them when i fix it down ?

also which colour is prefered?? midnite grey OR scarlet red...... lol

I think id go with the red... no, ive changed my mind, the grey... theyre both nice!

Why dont you set up a poll in the 'Put it to the vote..' section? :D (y)

for mine i got some bass box style carpet/cloth and used that. looks good and is hard wearing. ive done the same in my cinq too on alot of things.

easiest way i found was to actually take the door cards off and wrap the carpet around the front of the cards and staple it down into the back. works fine and the staples dont stick through to the front neither

Thats exactly what mine look like (y) 'cept i used some thick cotton like material. i work next door to a fabric shop so got a substancial discount :D think i bought enough to retrim 4 door cards, and enough spare to trim another 2 if needed, for about a tenner
