Dear All,

When mechanic try to fix the carburetor on to the Intake manifold after cleaning, portion of the intake manifold chipped off/broken at the center of the tapped hole. This has been due to the excessive torque applied or may be for some other reason.

Can any one suggest me wether I can weld the detached portion to the manifold? If I do so, will it give airtight joint along with sufficient strength for fixing the bolt?

I am asking this question as spare part is not available at Fiat dealer (or) in the local market in Hyderabad,India.

Please advice, Thanks in advance.

I guess you can weld it, its aluminium so a bit trickier to weld, but doable. Pity you arent in NZ, I've got three FIRE inlet manifolds sitting in my garage.

Another possibility I would think of would be some sort of good epoxy cement, depending on what is available locally.

same thing happened to me, reamed the hole by overtightening. I took it to a shop where they welded the manifold then tapped it back to the bolt size. still as good as ever and it cost me less than a replacement
