Hi

Just had this warning message come up, don't recall seeing it anywhere on the forum before. Don't think it is linked with the depollution saga which is an already well rehearsed conversation.

Any ideas? And should I panic now?

Hi

Thanks for the swift response. Is it urgent or can it wait, ie can we drive it a couple of hundred miles over the weekend and sort it next week?

It has to be refilled/topped up by dealer who will also reset the system...unless it's a error in thewarning system.

Hi T14086,

Is this a warning for that special expensive fluid which goes somwhere under the car? The reason I am asking is that I am still having problems with the anti-pollution engine system faulty message accompanied by loss of power and I was about to insist that they topped this fluid up. I will post in the relevant thread for what has been done to my car yesterday.

Thanks.

Lou

Yes, this is the FAP fluid [or whatever it is called] - according to the dealer, it is expensive stuff.

Hi Stuart,

If this is the case then I will not ask them to top it up. Having said that, was your problem not resolved by topping it up? And you did not have this message on your system saying it was too low. I don't know what to do as at the moment the car is unusable on any A road or motorway.

Lou

I can't recall now - although have taken it for a few long motorway drives, and it is fine.

Problem only tends to occur IF I drive it at higher speeds, say a constant 90 and then some.

Well, it did 280 miles on the motorway without any problems. Message came up every half hour or so, nothing else to report. I'm going to try and get it booked in this week.

A quick squint at the service manual suggests there should have been something done with it at the 48,000 mile service (the last one funnily enough) and it is for 2.2 diesel engines only.

Stu - may not apply to you then as you are 2.0 diesel as I recall.

Hi Rich,

Stu does have a 2.2 and he did get his topped up for free due to his Anti-Pollution message problems. I'm due to speak to somebody at the dealership next week about my warning light and guess what, the light has gone out and I can't get it to come back on. I was able to get the light to come on without fail just by flooring the pedal. The only thing that I can think of is that the last part they changed may have forced the car management system to re-learn the style of driving. Who knows.

OK.

Booked into garage for Thursday this week. It is part of the 48,000 mile service but only if you ask for it as it is a chargeable extra of £70 ish. So, why put it in the service book then?

I'll update after Thursday!

Well I presume that at that price it will only include 2 litres as I think it is £35.00 a litre and that would be with free labour. As your getting the message I presume it will take the full 5 litres or close to it. My garage advised me that they keep filling it until it overflows, does seem a strange way to do it being that the fluid is so expensive. As regards my anti-pollution light I still can't get it to come on and the car now appears to have a kick-down when I floor the pedal. I can't remember if it ever had one as I have had this fault since last September.

I believe the FAP fluid is used depending upon the way the car is driven. So it uses as much or as little as is needed to ensure the exhaust output is as pollutant free as it can manage.
Therefore one would assume that some owners will need more FAP fluid than otehrs at their 48,000 miles service.
Is it possible to see or find out how much has been used?
Ours is just over 46000 miles so would be good to know how big our FAP bill will be in a few months.

All sorted. 60,000 mile service + the FAP fluid and filter change came to £242 ish. The fluid and filter were broken down separately but came to about £80 in total, it seems to be the filter that costs.

What was slightly surprising was the quote for new front pads and discs - £313 inc VAT. Seems high to me, I'll be talking to my local friendly independent ( and trusted) garage on this one. They managed to service my Volvo for £200 cheaper than the dealer last week.

I'll find the invoice and post the exact numbers when I find it.
