Hello everyone, I'm a newbie and I've got a 2005 Ulysse Eleganza, which I've had from new.

My problem is my radio has appalling reception. I can't understand it. There seems to be interference all the time. Symptoms:

- pretty much permanent background hiss
- the output often judders as if the radio is being switched on/off very fast all the time, ie the sound constantly cuts out for a split second
- it loses the signal all the time (I'm talking every few seconds or so at its worst) and loves going into SCAN mode (always during an interesting bit, I notice)
- it hasn't got the strength to retain the signal as you drive away from a good signal area
- when playing a CD the sound cuts out if I put my foot down on the accelerator, especially from a standing start (as if the car only has the power to do one thing at a time)

I've tried various radio stations, and some are better than others (I guess due to signal strengths) but the problem is across the board.

I wouldn't mind betting that the on-board computer is the problem (or part of the problem) here but I know nothing about cars so I wouldn't know where to start, but the radio in my wife's 7-year old ordinary Ford Mondeo (which doesn't have an on-board computer, having been built in the days when cars were simpler) works perfectly, with perfect reception and the ability to retain the signal much further than that of my Ulysse.

I got the dealer to look at it and was told the radio works perfectly, which means they're either incompetent or in denial (I suspect the latter, or maybe a bit of both). I mean, it's obvious when you listen to it - it's basically unusable.:bang:

Anyone got any ideas?

Sounds like your aerial is disconected?

I've never had a problem like you describe. I do occasionally get the CD
cutting out, especially if accelerating up hills, I think this is a mechanical
issue with the transport.

Yes, thanks for that. That's what I suggested to the Fiat dealer but was told that it is connected.
