Only posting here because us 500X owners have just been through our 1st MOTs and there will be more of us to follow.

Polution has been an issue and authority witch hunt has been with us for many years now.

Moving forward to the electric era then we no doubt will be into MOTs that will not be checking exhaust emmissions but checking for electrical noise polution.

No doubt audible noise polution will be on the radar. Actually wish this was already a part of the MOT for modified road cars and motorbikes. Noise for Boys is a performance plecebo in most cases of after market so called go faster exhaust systems.(n)

And I'll qualify that last remark with expensive cost and design work. Performance exhausts do not have to be loud. Take F1. The current engines produce all the power and perforamance more so than previous engines but they also have a sound limit. No F1 team has claimed the noise reduction cost them performance with properly designed quiet exhaust systems. What they have, along with fans, criticised is that part of the F1 sport is the performance, NOISE, smell, atmosphere etc. And I agree but not on the public roads.

Ironically, I think from next year EVs will be required to make a noise at low speed to warn unobservant pedestrians of their approach.
