General X290 Euro6 egr pope recall

General X290 Euro6 egr pope recall

just had my moho booked in for thursday for the recall EGR pipe being told it could take up to 5 hours depending what they find

Here is the offending pipe, i am replacing the heat exchanger on this ducato euro 6. As you can see the bracket fractures away from the pipe, sometimes causing the pipe also to fracture leading to extensive heat damage to all surounding componants, major job is an understatment ???

Wait until you have oil level sensor faulty all that work for sensor replacement madness gone mad!!

Had my van in for a service at 30,000kms last week

Iv mentioned the problems that I have with it from the 1st day of ownership, flat spots, power surges and bad mpg

They drove it and couldn't see anything wrong and done a flash update on the software

One thing they did find was that 2 of the injectors were giving to much diesel so I have it booked in next Monday for these to be replaced

Hopefully this will solve any of the issues

Keep us informed how you get on,
Mine has thrown up PO238 &236 error codes two mornings on the trot, giving limp mode until stopped and started

Turbo pressure solenoid, will be booking it in somewhere new tomorrow,
As mentioned these once replaced can cure or make better the performance I believe

Ok, so had two limp mode sessions today, so as it’s now 30,000 miles since recal was identified on my van, and after them confirming they had all the parts excluding the pipe in stock on Tuesday

I called today, no news

Called Fiat customer care ([emoji23][emoji23][emoji23])

Was informed to Not drive the vehicle and should have been told not to drive it

Basically if anything else breaks, goes wrong as a result, it may not be Fiat’s problem!!!

Even though they cannot supply the part

They informed me, the dealer can apply for funding from fiat to obtain a courtesy vehicle (probably not an xlwb van) to keep me mobile

On calling the dealer back and asking them to apply for funding

As if by magic.... yep you guessed it....
A pipe has suddenly become available
(The one they keep in a drawer for emergencies)

(Yes I used to do the same at my Renault & Peugeot parts depts I ran for many a year)

So she’s going in Monday night

See if it “solves all my running problems” that the receptionist claims ....

A friend of mine with a motorhome less than 8 months old has had to leave his at a Fiat Commercial garage as the pipe has split on his and they have said the same - not to drive it anything else breaks etc. They have no idea when the part will be in to carry out the recall work. Fiat Customer Service not any help.

Apparently I should have been told the same, they told me it needed recall before I got the letter (at last service 60k)which I think should advise not to drive, tbf I should have read letter but why when it’s already booked in and parts on order (they never called to say supply was an issue, I had to chase up)

Funny though after my call to fiat, dealer panics and all of a sudden, a part is available! Wouldn’t surprise me if they were already claiming for ££££ towards a hire vehicle, hence the panic,

Anyway it’s been in overnight as they’re 24hr, I hired a van at my cost for 24hrs, hopefully in a couple of hours I’ll (I will call them as they won’t me!) hear on if it’s fixed, or now needs more due to the 30,000 miles covered since it was diagnosed

Hmmm it’s not going to be ready until tomorrow now...
Grrrrr ????

Ok well I picked the van up yesterday afternoon (wed) drove 15 miles home, engine felt tight compared to before, flat, no go, and steering was out, wheel was now at 5 to 12 position!
Had been told by our friendly fiat tech on here that rack & subframe will be removed. And will need alignment

My helpful as ever fiat pro service centre was made aware before the job yet still it came back with steering out, and they don’t offer 4 wheel alignment !

Anyway I today had the 90k service done elsewhere, brakes sorted and lubricated up the caliper sliders, yippee they stop now, (joys of doing 50-60,000 miles each winter, all that salt.

They aligned the wheels, then adjusted rack and re aligned,

Both wheels were pointing outwards, that’s bad.

So be warned folks, make sure they at least double check alignment as the rack was out of position after egr recall

Incidentally after the good run from midlands to Harrogate for its service she ran better and fuel economy was around 29mpg, the big test will be my regular weekend run from Milton Keynes non stop to Gateshead, see how she goes Eco wise

Throttle valve pipe recall also done I believe

Also I never saw it but egr pipe did have a big hole in it

What date were updated pipes fitted from, going to look at a "new" one this week but dont know how long its been sitting around for thanks

Would hazard a guess that any built afterNovember/ December 17 will be fine but only fiat will probably know for sure,
Ask the service department to check the chassis number or reg if it’s registered yet

I've had mine (2016 MoHo PVC) into 2 different dealers for the EGR recall.

The first checked it and said it was fine (obviously I've no idea if they looked or not), then told me that actually the chassis number isn't in the recall.

the 2nd dealer, when I asked about the recall, said the same thing.

However - according to the VOSA site (www . dft . gov . uk / vosa / apps / recalls / default . asp]), the recall affects vehicles with chassis numbers between 02A59559 - 02F21177.

My chassis number is 02B1XXXX* - which, as far as I can make out, SHOULD be in the recall! (B comes after A and before F!)

So - who's wrong, VOSA or FIAT?

Obviously it's now too late for me - we're off to Europe for the rest of the year - fingers crossed!

The range of VINs encompasses more vehicles than are subject to the recall as far as I'm aware.

I'm not certain of the reason for this particular recall, but having experience of the industry one possible explanation is that only a specific batch of parts are affected. For example, manufacturers often have a particular part produced by more than one supplier, so that they are not left high and dry if one of the suppliers has a strike, goes out of business etc. It may be that a batch of parts from one supplier only is at fault. With current production methods where parts are individually designated to specific vehicles, labelled as such and arranged to arrive at the production line just in time and in sequence to be fitted to the correct vehicle, Fiat will likely have knowledge of exactly which vehicles are affected. But on notifying DVSA, they have to state the range of VINs that encompasses all the vehicles affected, even though this will include unaffected vehicles within the range.

My E5+ van is not subject to the recall, although its VIN falls within the published range because it was built after E6 production had already commenced due to a factory outage in early 2016. My VIN is 02B4xxxx, so on the face of it built after your E6.

Put your VIN into the Chassis Check box on the following link. It will tell you whether your vehicle is subject of any recalls or not:

That makes a lot of sense and (as an engineer) I should have thought of that! Cheers!
