Hi, all!

I'm new to this forum - have found it while searching the net for any usefull info on the new Croma. There don't seem to be many Cromas where I come from, but that might change just a bit due to used Cromas imported from Italy when their leases end (I'm from Slovenia, which is just next to Italy) at ridicolous prices...

I'm seriously considering buying one, value for money, safety, comfort and space are the key factors here. I haven't owned a Fiat yet, but I'm a big fan of italian cars due to may excellent experience with Alfa and Lancia.

My question is for all Croma drivers here: based on your first hand experience with this car, would you still buy one? It seems like a great deal. Is it indeed?

I would buy another one if i had the need for a larger car. I love my Croma despite the cost for some parts. I think i got a great deal when i got mine last year especially as my sister paid a £1000 less for a 2002 VW Golf gt tdi.

When I was in Italy recently I saw a lot of the new Bravo-nosed Cromas, and they look very handsome indeed. In fact, now that Mercedes and others have incorporated the flare over the rear wheel arch they look even more contemporary: Fiat often leads in design ;)

In stark white the Croma is particularly handsome and It has real presence.

If I was in the market for sch a car, and I lived on the continent, I'd by one.
 
A few weeks ago I bought a 2007 Croma 1.9 JTD 8V Black Label (I think it is a Dynamic with a few options).

Before I had a Stilo, which was a very good car.

I had doubts about the Croma so I bought a cheap one but until now I love it very much.

You won’t be disappointed as your key factors are value for money, safety, comfort and space.

It is a great deal indeed!(y)
 
Although the Croma has much to comend it (comfort, size, economy and power) the reliability issues have been such that I wouldn't buy another - in fact as soon as the extended warranty runs out on mine next years it's history.

Mine was plagued last year with electrical gremilns that went on for 6 months and saw the car stranded more than once. Now after 12 months almost faultless running (I have had to replace the EGR valve and airflow sensor - these are a weakness too) the car is playing up again - see the recent thread called 'Electricty - Why can't the Italians get it to work?. It has to be the most unreliable car I have ever owned, and I have had some belters.

So it's a definite no from me - sorry folks.

Possibly we need a "Faults / Fixes" Sticky on Croma and all other groups where we can collect in one place Model faults and fixed.

o Simple obvious title
o Simple description of fault and/or symptons
o Simple description of solution

e.g.

Title: Rear Wheel Tyre Wear
Fault/Sympton: Excessive rear tyre wear, possibly even or A-sysmetric
Solution: Rear wheel tracking/alignment. Known issue. Fiat Campaign No:nnnnnn

Well at the moment yes. But as my mileage is only 36K then I'm guessing there are more issues around the corner yet to be discovered.

Probably the biggest problem with the Croma (apart form being a GM hybrid) is the sheer lack of number of cars and dealer experience here in the UK.

This has 3 major effects:

1) poor dealer service / knowledge
2) few faults and warranty claims being charged back to Fiat make Fiat sit up, take note and generally raise their game (e.g. fixes, campaings, sympathy etc.) for us Croma owners
3) the only large car / estate in the Fiat group leaves those of us needing such a vehicle with just the Multipla or Doblo.

Quite understand. I'm hanging on because while she is running OK, despite some issues, I'm hoping for the best.

The Croma's original UK price (150 Eleganza) was £18,500 (approx). I paid £12,001 for a new 1st reg car.

At 18K the Croma had so much more to offer than the competition. At 12K it was a steal.

Not suggesting I'm happy / want to endure problems and possibly spend £6000 to obtain equilibrium but I'm hoping the balance will actually be in my favour.

Some poor sods have spent £20K plus for other makes of cars with far more issues than the Croma.

If buying another Croma I WOULD WANT more quality, trouble free, long term longevity etc. etc. but that has to be only natural.

£ for £ the Croma is a pretty good car, far from perfect and wanting in some areas.

I personally just wish, yet again, the GM DNA in Fiats was totally irradicated now and for ever more.
