Hi.
My daughter just got back in and her wipers are stuck over to the right when stopped.
She said initially they just stopped moving altogether so she moved the wiper arm again and they then worked again but stop in the wrong position every time.
We tried every position on the wiper arm including the screen wash function and they all work as they should apart from ending up in the wrong position on the screen.
Any ideas you clever people?
David.

The motor gets filled with water and there have been problems with grease used on the contact plate inside the gearbox and the motor brushes can get jammed in their slides.
Before going to all that bother check the position of the drive arm at the back of the motor/gearbox assembly. It's a short arm and in the correct park position it is at 9 o'clock as you face the car. It isn't keyed to the output shaft and can move if it loosens of the wipers came under a heavy load like shifting frost or snow.
If it has moved remove the motor assembly, loosen the nut and set it to 9 o'clock.

I don't suppose you have any photos to show me where the motor is and what I'm looking for do you? I know it's a long shot.

The wipers on this model are pretty poor quality but as the car itself is pretty good all round I would look into replacing them, its really simple to do even without much skills. I know as I have done it 3 times with different methods. Normally the rods that hold them onto the motor (moving parts) wear the rubbers out and the grooves on the spindles are weak where the wipers fit. You can buy better connectors on ebay for less than £30. this guy showed me how to do it

Don't leave them as mine came off at speed on a motorway in torrential rain and scratched the side on the car up. If its the motor this helps with changing that too and they are about £15 on ebay. As stated above water does get in so unblock your drainage too

That's got to be the best "how to" video I've ever watched.

I'm a bit puzzled though as his wipers were quite obviously out of synch with each other but my daughters are perfectly in synch and working as they should so the arms must be connected I would imagine.
Her problem is that they are stopping in the up position not where they should. So is this something else, possibly electrical rather than mechanical? I only say this as years ago on the old TX4 London taxis this used to happen quite regularly and my old mechanic said it was the "park switch" playing up. I don't actually know what a park switch is or even if a modern car like the Punto has one.
Any ideas?

The park electrical issue with these cars arises mostly if wiper assemblies from later ( 03- ) cars are fitted to the earlier cars.
Dirty motor or contact plate issues will generally have juddering operation and or working one speed only.

Use the video to take it all out (it really is very simple) and clean the contacts on the electrical connections. Check the play and condition of the bars and things while your in there. You should be able to do all this in about 30 mins. If I can do it then you can do it I promise lol

If she moved the wipers, the nut on to the motor, may be loose.Turn the wipers on and off,so the motor is in normal rest position ,remove key! Slacken the 13mm nut between the motor and the linkage ,move the wipers to the correct park position, retighten the nut,and all should be ok.Try this before stripping motor and linkages, ect.

When she moved the wipers the joint between the moter and linkage has slipped. If the park switch was faulty the wipwers would stop in random positions. If it was a link joint the two wipers would be out of sync with each other. If it slips again a cheap fix (slight bodge) is to clean the surfaces of the joint and put a drop of screwlocking compound (loctite) in the joint before you tighten it.

my wipers stop in the middle of the screen, they first go down and then all the way up and stop in the middle, they work normaly on any other speed, but when i turn them off they always stop in the middle

Remove the screen, rotate it 45 degrees until the wipers are in the correct position......:)

Starting off the wrong way first sounds very like the drive arm has slipped from it's 9 o'clock position.
