I think I've asked this question before but just incase we have new blood who can enlighten me..... I'm going ot ask again.

I have a home network with 3 computers.

There is my computer. This one has the Gateway to the Internet which the other machines in the house use to access the net.

My big bro has a Laptop in his room.

My Lil Bro uses the PC in the Front Room.

Now the issues which I have no idea how or why they are happning. Set up File Sharing.

From My machine I can browse all computers on the Network.

From my big bros machine he can browse his own computer. When he tries to browse my computer he is asked for a username and password. When he tries to browse the one in the front room he is simply told he does not have rights to access the share and to contact the owner / administrator of that machine.

My lil bro can browse my big bros machine but is also asked for a username and password to access my machine.

On my computer I use an Administrator Account.
My big bro has an Administrator Account.
Lil Bro has a Limited account.
BUT even the administrator account on the machine in the front room cannot access my computer.

Why why why???

You need to have identical named accounts and identical password for said accounts. You also need to enable file and printer sharing and make sure there is an exception in the windows firewall. Best way is to run the office networking wizard makes it all a piece of p**s.

And removing password is a bad idea as it will try to authenticate using the guest account as windows shares won't work with NULL passwords.

would it not be down to the permissions of the shared folders?
dont know much on it as i only share ot the xbox.

Shared permissions are default like the other machines in the house.

can you not remove all passwords and try?

Big no no as it means when I go out my lil bro and his lil friends will use my computer because its pace is blistering compared to the one in the front room which means they will inevitably break it.

There is an identical account on the machine in the Living room for my computer but it doesn't appear to mean a thing to my computer.

File and printer sharing is enabled and the Windows Firewall is OFF. The Networking wizard was used for the other computers just not this one as it messes up the Internet Sharing.

ICS/DHCP fails after a while and hands out random IP's to the other machines which do not allow them to access the net via this machine so the IP's are static which is why I cannot use the wizard on this machine.

But analysing what you have stated: The wizard was used on Big And Lil Bros machine yet Big Bros machine cannot access ANY machine apart from itself.

There is an Identical Account name with an Identical Password on the Living room machine but it fails to access the machine it "shares" an account with but can access one it has "nothing" to do with.

The Windows Firewall is OFF on all machines so plays no part in anything.

File and Printer Sharing is enabled on all Machines. My machine was initialised Manually and the other two were initialised using the wizard.

How are the computers networked exactly, cable or wireless?

What are the Os's on all machines?

Have you got local users and groups on your Computer Management?
