Hi - can anyone help out with the correct order for re-installing a window on a 1965f? I had to replace mine as it had a few marks from grinding and welding as i hadn't masked it properly:bang:

I am struggling to get the new glass back in. So far, i've got the quarter vent in , trying to insert the glass from the bottom but the glass fouls the bottom of the quarter vent's tunnel. If i remove the quarter vent and install the glass then i can't get the vent back in... Is there a special trick to it? It's been driving mad and there's not much info on the manual...

When I put mine back together, I installed the quarter vent first (along with the chrome trim pieces, weather stripping, and the window's rear guide channel) then put in the side window.

I inserted the window from the bottom (check the glass is facing the right way-the track on the bottom of the glass that the window winder goes in, faces the outside of the car). I installed the window before re-installing the window's front guide channel-that piece that sits underneath the quarter vent (see 'H' in photo).

I found that I couldn't slide the window directly into the guide channel on the back of the quarter vent. I had to put the window in the door with the top front of the glass between the quarter light and the door's outer skin. With the glass in the rear guide channel, I was able to then push the window backwards against the rear guide until the front of the glass could be moved into position into the front guide channel on the back of the quarter vent.

After re-installing the window winder, I re-installed the front guide channel that goes below the quarter vent.

Prior to all this, see if you can see how the front guide channel mates with the bottom of the quarter light. I mention this because it gets installed after everything else is in and you have to install it blindly. If you still have the quarter light in the door, it's not worth it to take it back out since the window trim gets mangled and scraped when the quarter light gets moved around. When re-installing the front guide channels, I had it easy as I just placed them over the glass and they slid right up into place.

Cheers,

Very useful response - I will try to slide it between the outer door skin and the qv channel and then try to pull it into place as suggested. It seemed like the the glass naturally wanted to go down that path but didn't want to force it too much as last thing I wanted was scratches on that new glass! Thanks again. PS I was thinking of using contact adhesive for the weatherstrip and channels... Hopefully it will do the trick. Thanks very much for your help and picture!

Glad to help!

I used a contact adhesive on the weatherstrip (the rubberized U-channel that sits in the door frame along the top and rear of the side window). Maybe I didn't use enough but I had problems with the weatherstrip falling out.

Maybe something like JB Weld would be a better option? Would be interesting to hear what others recommend...

working part-time in a garage at the time (ironically, 1 that I had originally helped crank into life), I was given permission to use workshop facilities, so I stuck my weather-strip in place with some blobs of windscreen sealant--seems to have worked so far!
