hi

just want to check other peoples thoughts.....

i have a hp desktop machine that runs linux. it came with win7pro, which i don't use on it.
i installed win7pro on a toshiba laptop with a win7pro(not the hp one, a standard version without hps bloatware) dvd and used the code from the hp to register the software, after a week its thrown up an un-authourised code error!!!
is it likely that M$ have clocked that the laptop isn't a hp and decided that i can't use the win7pro code.....or is it something more sinister.....

When you bought the HP laptop did it have Win7 already installed on it? If so there's your problem, it is feasible that the code on the HP laptop is registered against the hardware in that laptop - so when installed on the toshiba laptop things don't add up.

It's against Microsoft copyright to install an OEM license on another machine as they are none transferable - which sucks monkey butt!

I'd hazard a guess that it isn't that I've done it hundreds of times on my own hardware.

Im on Windows 7 Ultimate right now using a key I 'harvested' from an Acer Laptop on a Custom Build Desktop PC.

but had your harvested key ever been used before even if for pre-install?

the hp came straight from hp to me and has never even been installed, its used as a coding machine, and i prefer to use linux for that (soooo much faster than windows:devil:), so the code has never been used with the pc...i'm beginning to think its a hp code and that, that is causing the problem with the toshiba laptop. will remove it anyway and dig out my xp:slayer: disk.....only want windows for itunes for the phone:bang:

and i drive a jtd punto.....

yeah linux and an iphone, probably a bit of an odd mix, but i tried blackberry, htc and samsung...didn't like any of them, besides....siri's working really nice with the voice control on the stereo(y)
