I have a 1.2 and out of my last tankful I got the grand total of 38.5 mpg. When it was in the garage I asked them if they had any ideas to which I was told it needed to run in more and after the first service it would improve dramatically.

The thing is I don't flog it and my drive to and from work is dual carriageway and A roads. I'm really getting fed up now especially when I read of people getting about 50 mpg out of theirs.

Not an expert, so take this in the helpful spirit it is intended, but I understand the standard set up on the 1.2 can run rich, maybe a re-map will resolve ?

With less than 1k on mine, the best i have managed is 51mpg but average for a tank full is 48mpg give or take .2mpg and that all been town driving so far, oops i lied there was a small motorway trip but mainly town driving.

Now done over 1600 miles, averaged so far 51 mpg,
last tank (320 miles) was 54.5 mpg. Must admit some of that was down to the wife driving! I think she must drive "sensibly", as for me........

Travelled from Stoke to Matlock today, and with some efort managed to get 63 mpg out of a 1.2 today. it is amazing how easy it is to get your fuel consumption to improve. But put your foot down for a while and it all goes wrong. Was managing 66.6 mpg until a Feelander tried to bully us.

I'm getting mid 50's at the mo. But that has been long motorway journeys. I'm on a new tank of fuel and have only been doing short city trips. I'm expecting mid 40's.
Note that my first 3 tanks of fuel each had an ever increasing mpg, 40 odd up to 56.8mpg. How many miles have you done?

how fast were you going? i got up to 50 mpg within the stupid 50 mph m1 roadworks.. we should all put an average speed aswell to help see how these figures are acheived

http://www.whatcar.com/news-special-report.aspx?NA=233124&EL=3246290 Lots of hits of varying use if you search on economy driving.
You are already 1/2 way there by choosing a car with the potential for good economy, the next thing is to learn how to drive it to get the results it's capable of. If it's a choice between saftey or economy, pedal to the metal otherwise you can cut at least 25% off your fuel bill without taking any longer to get there. The official figures are a guide, you will never hit them as they are either done by a robot that has been optimised or by a better driver than we are who will go through the hoops at the point that gives the best possible answer. Allowing for the bragging rights optimism of a trip computer and the quoted figures I would say 50mpg is a good target for your car on the sort of journeys you do. Plan ahead try to avoid braking carry speed without spending it all on tyre wear dont tailgate dont accelerate uphill let the car creep up a bit downhill to store some energy or keep the throttle closed when aEFI car use no fuel. I regularly get 44 mpg from the 1.8 Marea Weekend on a motorway trip, and 35 around town.

Being doign some test last week with my new 500, done 2700 miles in a week and checked total consumption, oil consuption and liquids, also of course petrol, two long trip and 2 tanks of mixed road, on the best result on 1st tank on the 1000 miles mark for the car i got 58 mpg, 25% town driving, 35% motorway and 40% A national road. Really impressed, but as said before just be sensible with the accelerator, got to say that the Dualogis on E help a lot to keep revs down.

Is the dualogic giving better Fuel consumption? I read somewhere that, on official figures, it did. I notice it changes gear a lot quicker that if i'd have been changing manually. With the 'E' button on, it gets to 5th gear after about 100m at 30mph.

Devonguy; Just for you i drove the 325+ miles from NE england to S Wales at a faster speed than normal. I did 80mph for much of the way. I only go 41MPG, thats compared to 56MPG when i drove at 60mph. I got home about 30 mins quicker, but on a 5 1/2 hour journey, 30 mins makes little difference. I'll be going back to driving at 60mph.
