Hi,

my 1987 Uno keeps snapping the clutch cable at the pedal end!! :(

I've got through 3 in 18 month's!! 2 made by quinton hazel and one from firstline.

Don't know if it's snagging on something, the clutch doesn't feel heavy but don't know weather to put a new clutch in now?

My car has the 1116 cc engine (same as early strada not fire engine!! )

Any help would be appreciated :) as i out of idea's!!

Also, grease the fitting on the pedal arm, I expect if that seizes up (with the usual creaking noise) it probably fatigues the cable strands near the eye fitting.

Maybe the clutch itself is near the end of its life and has become heavier than it should be? The clutch in an Uno is light, even in the Turbo, compared to - say - an Alfa 164 (now THAT has a heavy clutch even after it's been repalced... ;)) I got in my Turbo last week after a long absence and I thought the clutch fork was broken or something, the pedal was just too easy to push

Thanks lads, ill have alook into this whilst the car is off the road! :)

Will try putting some oil on the cable sheath itself, as well as greasing the pedal arm as suggested... (y)

Plus ill look at how it's routed too a73uk!! not thought of that. Does anyone have a pic to show how it's ment to be routed?

Its not a really heavy clutch Alex, but pehaps not as light as my Punto GT.
It certainly goes a little creaky a short while before the inevitable SNAP!!!
So maybe a new clutch is in order as it is 23 years old, an i have no idea if or when it's been changed!

My only other problem is identifying which gearbox my car has, as one is a uno type gearbox and the other a Strada/ Rimito gearbox.
As ill need to know which one my car has in order to get the right clutch, any ideas what i need to look at to work out which one

Cheers and many thanks
