I bought an X-plate 1.6 bravo trofeo as my first car. I impulsively bid for it at auction and got a good deal(compared with autotrader anyway). To be honest i didn't have a clue what i was buying until i had bought it. I took a quick look round and liked the pearl paint and sporty seats and wondereed what 100 on the side meant.

I have to say for a first car it is great but already i'm thinking of getting a better one. I thought about something like a hgt punto/bravo for a bit of extra power. But at the end of the day it will never be a sports car.

So really the question is, why do you all spend your money modifying when you could get a sporty little two-seater that would thrash a bravoHGT??

I'm thinking of a honda CRX for next year unless you guys can tell me why the HGT is so good and why its worth spending real money on a bravo.

one; its an ITALIAN STALLION
two; its got the power
three; its got great potencial for modding
four; when you pull up at a cruise people look and think whats that. not another bravo then you add yes it is but its a HGT then you've got respect that you can afford the best model going
five; shitty honda

Re: Re: why do you all have bravos??

yeah ****** honda with ****** v-tec engine, ****** sports interior, ****** two seats, ****** electric roof, will ******** **** all over the hgt

I hate people who take drugs.....customs men 4 example !

Re: Re: why do you all have bravos??

its not just the HGT, i have a 80sx, as do alot of us on here. and its a very nippy car for a 1.2
and its not always about getting the best model. as i wanted to get the newest bravo i could find. mine is a 2002 on a 51 plate.

Re: Re: why do you all have bravos??

There are very few 2.0 Hatch backs that actually beat the HGT's on £ for performance (both Punto and Bravo), but the best thing about them is they are very understated - very few people know what they are and are often very surprised.
There is also the sound of the 5 cyl engine which is glorious when being used to its potential. As for the looks, there are few cars that have the styling curves of the Bravo, most a bland euroboxes, like the very overweight looking Golf's of this world.
As for the CRX. they are simply dreadful cars, I had one as a company car for two very long weeks and simply gave it back and took a pool car! Honda's and most Japanese cars always look good when new but they always seem to look old and tired very qucikly - its not a quality thing, its just a "look" - and I have owned one from new for two years (Nissan 200sx Turbo) and it was exactly the same. Also they have no sould, no character nor do they drive with any verve, including the fast ones - take the Mitsubushi GTO as an excellent example (dont tell the wife!)
Lastly - it aint a Ford or Vauxhall, which are just sheep cars (my mates got one so I better have one too).
Thats why I have had 2 Bravo's (a small engined one and the HGT), just because.

Re: Re: Re: why do you all have bravos??

you certanly have and its awsome. and don't forget the sound system you have thats awsome too

Re: Re: why do you all have bravos??

The real question is why spend any money on any car smithers? It may be a hobby or just love for a car. Most if not all the people on this forum consider the bravo to be not just a car, but a piece of styling history. When the bravo was made one of its competitors was the escort, not exactly fabulous in the looks department. Cars 8 years ago were boxy, and styling was not an issue.

By CRX do you mean the civic type r? If so, oh dear. Dont forget that the bravo is a fairly old shape, but still looks fresh - tell me in 8 years that the honda civic will look like its just come off the drawing board and ill eat my hat.

Regards,

John

Re: Re: Re: why do you all have bravos??

I agree with you smithers, you may well "pass" a HGT, but when you get to your destination people don't notice Honda's as they are so dull, they think Gran's just turned up.
Lets face it the only people who are interested in Honda's and theyre kin are the sort of 12 year olds who think The Fast and the Furious is a good film and all Japanese cars should have those embarrasing little neons underneath to check fake tenners with.

Re: Re: Re: Re: why do you all have bravos??

Nige :) - Totaly agree :)

Is there any point in this post?????

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: why do you all have bravos??

I donrt mod mine for performance (otherwise I would do as u suggest and just buy a faster car!). I mod mine bexause I want it to look that little bit dofferent from the others (ok, its an indy kit but not all bravo's have it).

Mines purely for the looks and to get it looking how I want my baby to look :)

And as for the Bravo itself, this is what Nige wrote a while back and I love it:

We know that the Fiats have a bad reputation for reliabilty etc compared to other makes from around the world, so why did I buy a Fiat? Well, let me explain.

Let me be sexist for a minute. A car is like a woman.

German Cars, like German Women. Everything in the right place, works all day, shops on the way home, cooks dinner perfectly, clears up and makes your sandwiches for the morning - day after day after day. She has the hips for childbearing and could protect you in a dark alley - BUT, you dont really lust after her do you!

Swedish Cars, like Swedish Women. Reputation isnt everything! The cars are actually more exciting than the women and now have more curves!

British Cars, Like British Women (wheres the noose). Bit of a dodgy past, sedately styled nice to take home to your mum and always makes a great Aunty, but again - does she really make you want her?? There is an exception here to the rule - TVR! Blackpools finest are actually more like Essex Girls - Fantastic for a night, but you dont want to have to live with her!

OK still with me!

French Cars, like French Women. You are never going to understand them or why they look like that, but there is something beginning to stir the emotion, you aint sure what it is but you steer clear just in case!

American Cars, like American Women. You know they are as cavernous inside as they are bloated outside (oooeeer) and could be great fun until you mates found out. And have American cars ever sounded good - you get the odd one or two but the others sound like nails down a blackboard - just like the women!

And now.....

Italian Cars, like Italian Women. You KNOW she is going to be tempremental, you KNOW she will let you down when you least want her to, you KNOW she may even bite you, but you want her, you lust after her because when she wants you she will blow your mind, so you keep going back to her. She looks fantastic and my god your mates are full of envy.

I would like now to apologise to al....nah ********, if you took the wheels off a BMW and looked under the arches you will find they are hirsuite - Iam sure of it!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: why do you all have bravos??

Well, why do I have a Bravo?

Well, I also wanted a newish car that was cheap to run, cheap to insure and that I wouldn't get laughed at by the nobheads in 1.2/1.4 Nova's & Corsa's.
I'm also 18, and the money I spend on my cars is all mine, so that's why I also have a 1.2 16V 80Sx, the same as Tafi's, and like he said, a lot of other people here too.

My 1999 (T), with 29k miles, red key and nearly full service history cost me next to nothing at £1900 (my budget was literially £1880). The car is cheap to run (41mpg around town - in excess of 50mpg on the motorway!). And as for insurance, which is around £700 too.

As for the nobheads, they laughed at me, until they raced me ;)

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: why do you all have bravos??

Just thought i'd put my tuppence worth in.

I bought a 1.6 16v sx Brava (the 4 door version of the Bravo)
Firstly because we needed 4 doors at the time
Secondly the boot was big enough
Thirdly it looks fantastic
I still get people looking at it in car parks even though it's nothing special other than the wheels.
If and when i do decide to get another car there is no question in my mind as to what car it will be
It just has to be a Bravo (i only need 2 doors now the kids are getting older).
I've always loved Italy and the way they style there cars (and i'm not talking about Ferrari there crap in my opinion)
But just ordinary run of the mill cars look great
And there women well what can i say.
Bravo and Italian styling for me from now on.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: why do you all have bravos??

the honda crx is a fun car, but it only goes above 5,500 revs, even a vtr can beat you off the line. i still like them though!

secondly not everyone wants a quick car, some people need more space and then you have personal taste.

Re: Re: Re: Re: why do you all have bravos??

HGT = 154 bhp
Integra Type R = 179 bhp, which also has a very good sports interior. It also sounds wonderful at 9000rpm, for a FOUR cylinder ingine.

Nothing shitty about it, either. And it's reliable.

Like it or not, Jap is NOT crap; I can assure you of that.

My other Jap car (Mazda 323 Zxi - 2.0 V6) was neither slow, dull or unreliable either.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: why do you all have bravos??

Why are we even bothering arguing with someone who didn't even know what the 100 on the side of his car meant? He obviously knows **** about cars so just let him buy his CRX and see what he thinks of it.

Oh and I agree with RR about jap cars, they aren't crap but I feel most of them are lacking the x-factor that italian cars seem to get without a problem and without charging an arm and a leg.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: why do you all have bravos??

at the end of the day, we all drive and ride the car or bike we like the most, it may not be slow or fast, but we enjoy it. as long as your happy with what you've got.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: why do you all have bravos??

Definately Tafi!

I'm happy beacuse I've been after a 1.2 for ages (before my 1.9TD and 1.4) and it's in the right colour.

I love my car, minus the fact that it needs a new gearbox and clutch. But I aint complaining as I don't mind spending money on a car that I got for buttons :)
