I had mine done on my 1.8HLX the ride was pretty good, not as bad as i expected, harder than usual but pretty good overall
But......ive just put KYB gas shocks and lowered my JTD 50mm and the ride has vastly improved, so i would say it is worth changing the shocks aswell as you can get a set of KYB gas shocks for £100 all in and it will be cheaper in the long run, as you will have to have them changed eventually
pretty much everyone around here who has 17's (thats about half the forum) has also lowered it 30+ The lowest drop you get is with eibach springs which claim 33mm drop but its more like 30 up front and 20 out back. thats what half of those whove lowered have too.
some crazy folk, like Paul R for example have had everything from 15's on a 30mm drop through to 18's with a 60mm drop. last i heard he had 19's on a HGT and was dropping it on coilovers.
anyway, i digress. standard shocks are fine, so long as they are newish... if like most of us, your car is over 5 years old, is definitely worth changing them when you fit the new springs. your ride and handling will probably already be affected by the old shocks. fitting new ones and lowereing will, i imagine, give you better handling, and the same sorta ride as you have now. the exception being potholes... dodge potholes if you have 17's!
