To my cost I have found out that eBay drop down lists are not accurate and neither are many of the motor factors.
I phoned Fiat - they will feed back after consulting HQ in Italy- unbelievable.

My vehicle is a 2003 Fiat Ducato 15 SWB - 2.8JTD.It is the base vehicle for a Swift Kontiki 610.

BHP= 127
Engine= 8140.43S

I want to get a decent timing belt kit - Gates or something equally half decent. Apparently there are 2 kinds which fit the vehicle- correct one depends on whether it requires a high tensioner I am told . Could anyone guide me to the appropriate belt kit eg Gates K025334XS or K015334XS.

Any other advice re alternative good buys? Thanks

Its the same kit except the 2 version include tensioner spring. Its usually not necessary to replace the spring. Anything from gates dayco or contitech should be fine. The gates kits are usually cheap from idir autoteile on ebay

Thanks for that. You would think that Fiat UK would have been able to tell me that but no - they have had to consult HQ in Italy.And even today CarParts4less stressed that it was essential to fit the right one ie 1 or 2.

Just a quick update.Fiat got back to me. They said that either one would do. They added that there is a plunger in my model - not a spring ( whatever that means).The one that Fiat sells only includes belt and pulleys- if I need the plunger then it can be bought separately.

If you come across this sort of thing again.
Get both kits.
It should then be obvious which is correct or which you want to use and return the other one for a refund.
If it's buy post the vendor has to refund the one you send back. Ok you have to pay return postage but small price to pay to get on with job and less frustration.
If using local motor factor ask first about taking both and returning one you don't use. Asking first almost always ensures a positive outcome.
Thanks for posting what you found very useful.

The spring is in the plunger.

Gates have an excellent electronic catalogue you can check the contents, compare part numbers etc. no need to be buying / returning stuff.

I agree, gates on line catalogue is excellent.

Not every manufacturers catalogues for every part are as comprehensive as the gates catalogue.

Sometimes at motor factors the people working there can't tell you which part you need out of a few options.
