but does it stay on well ?
Yeah the cars only 3 months old now and only got 1k on the clock.

Does the hammerite take long to dry ?
Can i do a pair of wheels at a time and have enough time to do the others in the same day once they're dry ?

Part of my bedroom wall was painted with Hammerite, it took about a day to dry but it might be different on surfaces other than plaster...

Hammerite don't do plaster paint though so thats maybe your problem, try Dulux or Crown next time.

The Hammerite dries really quickly, good scrub with a wire brush like WR said and if your fancy you can spray the caliper with brake cleaner to remove all traces of muck and leave it ready for paint.

Thanx for your help everyone ;)

Im going to get my old mans axel stands tomorrow and hope we get some warmer weather over the next week.

I'm pretty certain i will go for the blue.

How many coats will i need of the hammerite ? Just the one I would imagine as its pretty thick stuff ?

Had a bit of a result with the Fiat area rep today.. I've been waiting to see him for 3 months because of some bodywork issues and my dealer has been bullsh*tting me about when he was coming..
I actually went to an olympian bodyshop to ask about the fitting of some bodykit stuff and told them about the issues.. they informed me that the area rep was in town and i got to see him there and then..
He was really annoyed that my dealer was p*ssing me about and has agreed to get the bodywork seen to and I also asked him to pay for my bodykit to be fitted and sprayed free for all my troubles...

He smiled and said OK..

Hehe pays to be cheaky :D

Yeah hammerite is the best thing to use! Scrub em down with a wire bush like sed n paint away! When i did mine on my punto; i gave em 1 coat all round then dryed em off with, a hot air gun! Then gave em another coat for good measure, which i would advise to do and let em dry! Also hammerite do a clear laquer to go over the top, to give it an extra strong sealing coat n a slightly shinny(er) finish! I'd say go for that to and do the job properly first time! (y)

I would bother with 18's really; cos i fink your wheel look real smart that are on it now! and they are quite different!! N uve not had ur wheels on that long; but if youve got the cash to burn! Id go for the kahn wheels on that yellow stilo in the thread 'modded fiats' in the lets talk fiat section!

You lucky git....................!!

Didnt you have some luck with the alloys aswell

Yep that was me, not too sure if i would rather things be perfect in the first place though, at least that way you don't have all the hassle.

I'd get some 18s on it, and just refurb the calipers back to "good as new" as they are at the moment. Take them off and give them a good wash and scrub up with a wire brush. Painting them just looks tacky IMO.

Unless you're putting a set of Brembo 4/6 pots on which will be red already that is...;) Schweeet!

Firstly preparation is the most important part in getting a good finish. By all means wire brush them to remove any major crap, but you should wash them with soapy water using a cloth and toothbrush to get into and nooks and crannys. Depending on how they are currently finished you may need to sand them with a bit of wet and dry to provide a better key for the paint. The paint should be suitable for re-coating within about 20 minutes although there may also be a note that after the first curing has finished after about an hour it can not be re-coated for six weeks, so basically if you don't re-coat between 20-60 minutes you can't re-coat for 6 weeks. Equally, you may well get away with one coat, but three thinner coats would be better, ideally applied as thinly as possible. The directions for use will be on the tin anyway, so do what it says there, I'm only going on past experience with a variety of metal paints.

As for colour, I don't think the blue looks too bad, but for some reason there is something in my head that says calipers should be red, whether it looks good or not.
