I'm helping a friend bring his 1989 Uno 60 S back to life. The clutch is stuck and can't be freed by the usual (aggressive) methods.

Can anyone tell me which clutch it needs and recommend a source for an el-cheapo remanufactured one?

The clutch appears to be cable actuated, if that helps. I can find reference to 17 and 20 spline versions.

I don't think it's a FIRE engine, at least it looks different from my old (RIP) punto FIRE engine (uno has metal oil filler cap on the side away from the timing belt and cylinder head bolts are not under the rocker cover.

Anything else we should change while doing the clutch?

Assuming the gearbox is working OK and likely to work for some time, I suggest a critical look at the driveshaft boots. The inner ones retain the gearbox oil and it would be a good idea to replace them if there is any sign of leakage. The outer ones are also easy to change (by removing the inner joint from the shaft) and again, if there's any sign of perishing, you know it makes sense to do this job while the driveshafts are off :) You'll need some non-EP gear oil (GL4), FIAT ZC90 being the original spec and still available through FIAT dealers at a modest price (here in NZ, at least). Otherwise, I use Castrol VMX.

I also reckon now is a good time to fit a new bush kit to the gearlever linkage while that's off. Like the CV/Tripode boots, a bush kit is cheaply available from a specialist (or rather, was cheaply available... hope they still have them) and makes a wonderful difference to the action of the gearlever, which can otherwise be something of a lottery.

Not much else gives trouble on the old Uno 60. I've owned two and I reckon they're a nice easy-to-drive runaround that has a tad more power than a 45 FIRE and therefore goes a tad faster on the open road. It's the same engine as the old FIAT 128 but with 58bhp instead of 55.
