can anyone help, im looking to find out where the thrermostat is located on the uno 1.1 injection fire engine, car wont warm up untill stuck in traffic so think it is a thermo problem.
Thanks for your help. (its a k reg)

Thanks

I think the radiator gets too much cold air when driving. It may be a possibility to use some cardboard to cover the grill (is it called grill? it is here at least). Please mount it on the INSIDE for cosmetic reasons. The grill is very easy to take out. Open the bonnet. Two screws as I can remember (after someone actually backed into me) and lift out after pressing it gently towards the engine bay. There is also a ventilation grill in the bumper that may deliver cold air to the radiator that may be covered with cardboard.

Anyway, I don't think there is anything wrong with the thermostat. There is just very cooled down coolant that passes through the system. My opinion though...

I've done this job a month ago on my Panda 1.0fire i.e., so I well remember what's the way;)!You have two pipes attached on your radiator, follow it with your hand as far as you touch the clamp next to the head...the piece were the pipe is attached and bolted on the head is your thermostat! The bolts are both 10mm, but the problem is to reach them, because the distributor is located upon it...btw

The 'stat is in the end of the cylinder head just below the distributor (gearbox end of engine). There's a big pipe going into it (from the radiator or water pump, I forget which). Unbolt it and pull it out - if it sticks then tap it carefully. Don't try to lever it out as you'll damage the mounting on the cylinder head and it won't seal properly when you replace it.
Your problem could be down to the electric fan thermoswitch - open the bonnet and let the engine tick over, then when the fan cuts in check the temp guage. It should be around 1/2 way up or a little higher. If the fan comes in below this level, replace the switch. I'd check this before removing the thermostat as it's easier to replace and far cheaper!

my fan cuts in at just over the halfway mark on the temp gauge so thats fine... when my sisters 106s heater was acting like mine she replaced the thermo (or well.. i did it for her) and the heater heats up instantly which is why i believe it may be the thermo

Yup, if it's not the fan then I'd go for the 'stat. Shouldn't be an expensive part, quite easy to fit as well. [8D]

Typical Halfrauds. You're lucky they can get it, whenever I've asked them for FIAT bits (Uno heater valve, Punto track control arm) all I've got is "sorry mate we don't do 'em, try a main dealer". Independent motor shops seem to be decent though, I've used two in Doncaster where you order parts and get them on the same day. Cheap too [8D]

I've an advice for you:before unbolting the thermo, tape the "hole" you see on the gearbox casing,to avoid water and/or bolts to fall insideB)!!After you've fitted the new unit and reconnected the pipe, you'll have to topo up the expansion bottle with (pure!)water and antifreeze and then bleed the circuit because the air could cause overheating...

[^]Thanks to all for your help.
It was the thermo, changed it and car warms up very quickly
now :D, as most of you said it was nice and easy to fit.

Thanks again.
