I've got a very feint whining noise, I think from my front ns wheel, brake or driveshaft

I don't think it is gearbox, as it happens in neutral as well as in gear ....and it also remains constant when I turn left or right.....

It is very feint....you wouldnt notice it at motorway speeds or with the radio on, but it is a new noise

What would a dodgy wheel bearing sound like? Any ideas welcomed?

Dodgy wheel bearings groan when driven and the noise can sometimes change slightly when cornering. The best way to check this is jack the wheel up, hold the tyre top and bottom and try to shake and see if there's any play. If you feel it knocking, its the bearing. Also spin the tyre and listen for a metallic grinding sound.
