General Wheel Changing

Hello,

Anyone actually tried to change the wheel on their Ulysse yet? I did today whilst at home [wanted to rotate the wheels round due to some uneven wear...] and hit a major problem.

Using the wheel brace supplied with the car, I could undo 4 of the 5 bolts on each wheel. BUT the locking wheel nut adaptor would NOT fit into the brace - I had to dig out a multi-fit from the garage. I am now happy I found this out, before waiting to have a flat in a less convenient place. I am not sure if the locking wheel nuts are dealer supplied or a standard Fiat part!

Something else to mention to my local Fiat dealer!!!

We've been fiated again.
I've just been to look and found I've got 2 identical wheel nut adaptors in a Fiat parts bag. Like yours they'd have been useless at the side of the road.
Maybe it's an extra security measure

I am going to have to check this out on my car, I think I will phone Fiat if the wheel brace doesn't fit.

Fiat have changed the locking wheel nuts they fit. The original ones were the same size as the rest of the nuts, but were prone to damage to the metal on the nut where the key fits, so they changed to another. This newer one is better and less prone to damage, but is a different size.

I found this out because I ended up in a situation where Quickfit damaged the head of one of the old nuts when doing some work, and the local dealer had to resort to some interesting measures to get the nut off. As a result, they changed all the locking nuts on my car to the newer ones, and pointed out the size difference to me.

I have a separate long/extending handled wheel-brace that has a reversable end to fit both sizes so I was OK, but if you only havethe standard Fiat supplied one, you should check what size locking nuts you have and discuss the options with your dealer (as I believe they should supply a tool to fit)!!!!!

Ah, so good of one Fiat dealer to know, but not notify the end-users?

I have always kept separate wheel braces in all my cars, mainly due to the fact they are stronger than normal AND the one I use allows you to stand on it better if that darned nut is too tight.

I was shocked to find a wheel nut that I couldn't remove as standard! I thought I was missing something, searched in other places around the car for an adaptor, etc, then gave up.

I will def bring this up with my dealer.

It seems my "nuts" are the right size (there's a relief), I checkd the car last night and the locking nut is the same as the normal nuts.

... in which case be very careful if you need to take a wheel off, as the ones you have are easy to damage!

Maybe it's extra security, even the locking nuts break off just in case you stole the locking key.
