Ok, as some of you may or may not know. I recently sold my cinq and bought a new Uno (white one bellow). Unfortunalty, the uno I bought is a pile of crap and although it looks ok in the pics, its rusting like mad and the sills are rumbling underneigh and beyond repair. the gearbox is also shot (drives but rattles like hell) and i think the clutch is on the way out as it occasionaly slips... it has other probs but mainly just those.. the rust is the main problem. the rear arch lips litterly pull to pieces lol...thyeres also something funny with the front wheels.. they seem loose and rock slightly even though they are completly tightened.. worn hubs i think.... strange considerign this car passed (and i have the certificate to prove) its MOT 2 days before i collected it.

anyway, As some of you may or may not know, I bought a red uno 999cc fire IE whilst my cinq was off the road for a month a while back. I then decided to break it for spares rather than selling it on. i thought it wasa bad decision at the time to be breaking such a mint car but i decided i would make more mone this way.. and i did.. i made more money that i bought the car for :)..

so now im stuck with an uno thats rusting to death and an uno that has a body in great condition (no rust atall) and an engine that run great but has bits missing that mean it wont run.

so basicly what im doing is rebuilding the red uno out of the white ones parts :D shouldnt take me long tbh. its just screwing on the major parts etc and connecting up etc. my main concern is the engine. im sure it will run etc but i just cut alot of the hoses when taking parts out to save time. mainly the ones for the Throttle body... howwever im sure i can replace these with used ones from scrap yards or replacement halfrauds hoses etc. it needs a new rocker cover gasket, TB, distributor (from white uno) and a few other bits.

Ill get it running again :D

just gimmie a few months and ital be the nicest uno on the forum :)

the engine will last.. its not the biggest problem.. ive decided on reviving the red uno. the white shell is useless now. ill be taking loads off it tho for the redun.. specualy the turbo arches and ive got some abarth skirts in the garage too . wil ltake the lowerign springs and alloys etc.

lol.. the black wasnt hiding anythin the rust showed right through lmao.

the worst is behind the passengers side rear arch and the sills tho.. vut dont worry about anymore unos heh.. i dont want 3 on the drive... i wanna rebuild and register the red one... only costs £35 for a VIC test and then you can just apply for a new reg docet and its done!.

Can i ask for more info or a link about a VIC test as i have just re-shelled an Uno and i got a letter from the DVLA asking me to contact them about it all. I was thinking i would have to do a SVA test which would be a right mare on my rally car, but is a VIC just a simple check of the VIN number ??? I hope so.

wanna bet ;) hehe

bushboy, checkout my restoration thread, i added pics now and you can see how bad the rust is on mine lol! but its a proper turbo so i gotta revive it and keep it alive :p

keep the updates coming matey! and make sure you all keep checking my restoration thread as i'll be updating it as and when things happen (y)

good luck bushboy, think we're both gonna need it for our projects lol

mine shouldnt be too hard :) my shells lovely :D

as for the VIC test. its a 30min test where you have to get the car checked over to make sure its the car you say it is. as far as im aware you will ned an sva test thing if youve changed the shell for a used one. if its a new shell then i think your ok but i believe fiat stopped making new unos quite a while ago :p here anwyay...

its basicly checking ovr the car history and vin number checks etc.

WARNING :-

I have just spoken to the DVLA as i'm in the middle of a sort of re-shell, and that stated that if you change the shell of the car for a 2nd hand shell then the car has to be SVA's (a major test cost £165) and you will get a Q-plate. However you could just change the engine number and colour details on the log book of the car you are putting the stuff into. This is what i am having to do now, instead of the re-shell option i don't like the idea of doing the SVA test. I don't think they would like the huge spot lights and roll cage in the car !
I asked about the VIC inspection this is for only when a car has been written off (by an accident) and recorded, if you then repair it they want to check that it is the same chassis number. If it is not the same chassis number then you have to go through the SVA test.
Also when you are SVA'ed you will get a new chassis number at the same time.
Its all a real pain in the ar$e, but a least i can now see a light at the end of the tunnel for me in this. Sorry if it changes your plans, but thought i should let you know.

just called the DVLA to clarify my situation and they have said that i can just simply apply for a new registration document and ital be fine. i dont even have to have it VIC tested as it wasnt actually scrapped.. all i need to do is fill out a V62 with a covering letter explaining and they will do the rest :D

Might even have it before stanford.

i pretty much put the engine back together now. just need to source an exhaust system asap as the one from the white uno wont fit as it doesnt have a cat nor a lambda etc. rest of engine is rebuilt and just needs a change of oil and coolant :D got the front rebuilt too.. lights, bumper, working on getting the wiper out of the white uno but a bolt has seized so im gonna litteraly cut the motor out lol.

back bumper is refusing to come off but ill manage :D might get a new one anyway as the white one is in ****e condition.

ive posted some new pictures... and some more of the rust on the rear arches on the white one.

bush boy,

i notice your uno (white) has modded front grill, what grill are you using on your red uno, the standard red one or spraying the modded black one red? and are you putting the tinted windows on your red one and what else will you be putting on your uno from the white one?

Are you gona respray the car when its all done or keep it red the way it is??
That white uno looked very nice, pity about the rust. Didnt you have a black uno before or am i mistaken? If so how comes you've gone back to an uno? lol
