Hi all, we got our 500 lounge 1.3 multijet about 18 months ago. Its a 58 plate and just done about 40k. A couple of weeks ago we had to have the rear shockers replaced and been told we need a new sump because its rotten and leaking oil(£200). Then today the drivers door handle just fell off when the car was being driven down the road. I honestly thought the 500 was better quality than Fiats used to be. I was wrong, why are the produced with such cheap materials? I will never buy another Fiat, ever, ever, ever, ever, not never!!!

All of those things could easily have happened with any other 4.5 year old car.

Yep. I have seen other vehicles of similar ages need similar. But they cost a hell of a lot more to fix ;-)

Here we go again! Quick! Fixed all the broken bits up and sell it so that someone else can have a reliable bargain!
The sump will of become porous, if it was leaking it would seize the engine in very short time. The porous sump issue goes back to the 1.2 mk2 punto however not common on the 1.3...have you had a second opinion?
Rear shockers are a consumable.
Not if you buy Bilstein's which are probably cheaper.
Do bilsteins last forever then....

Compared to the rather substandard original dampers, for all intents and purposes, yes.
The Bilstein's on my 131 were about 15 years old and would still have passed an MOT.
