Hi all i have owned my MK1 Uno for a couple of years now but am now thinking i want to do upgrade the turbo. Alot of work has been done to the car by the previous owners so i am not sure of th exact mods but to do with the engine it has at least the following:

Upgraded intercooler
8mm Spark leads
NGK Iridium plugs
Adjustable cam pulley
Adventi ported inlet manifold
Adventi high rev cam
Adventi heavy duty valve springs
Hybird turbo, similar to T2
Trust BOV
Aftermarket Exhaust System
Oil cooler
5th injector with in-cabin adjustment control
Dual stage in-cabin controlled Turbosmart boost controller
It used to run around 1bar but now seams to run more like .7 -.8 bar
I would like as much information as possible about what turbo would be a good choice along with reccomended psi`s and other mods that may need to be or should be done. Also best places to gt a turbo from in New Zealand. Also possible ad/disvantages. I have looked through countless pages of info but there are way to many conflicting views.
Any information will be greatly recieved as i need one asap.

This seems to be a pretty common topic. I must have answered this 10 times over the years!

So this is "UNOMK1" red with the bodykit. I saw it parked in Mt Eden last week! (y)

This car has an upgraded turbo, turn the boost up to around 1.2 bar and setup the injector controller to suit. See how that goes, I think it will keep you happy for a while. Its pretty slow at .8 bar with all that extra weight.
 
Yea thats the one i work in Mt Eden. I thought that may be the case but tried turning up the tap but it didnt make much difference thought the turbo might have been maxing out. Maybe i have a boost leak somewhere. As i currently have the turbo out of the car my thought was to change it, however the turbo fins etc seem to be fine. Might just put it back in but liked the idea of an upgrade for future performance upgrades. What turbo would you reccomend if i was going to upgrade t25? Cheers anyway
 
Its an IHI turbo so a T25 is really out of the question, or too much work anyway. Can you take a photo of the turbo compressor and turbine blades, or at least measure the compressor inducer. I've been told they fitted a VF10 compressor but I don't really believe it.
 
Compressor fins are 56mm exhaust side is 46mm. Hope these photos help.

Yeah that is a VF10 mate! Way bigger than standard. I would not upgrade it. You could try a larger turbine housing. 12-r off a mazda or similar, it will make a difference but it will also give more lag and you'll need to fab a new exhaust. This turbo should make a lot of power.
 
Cheers for your help i have gone with your advice and am gonna keep it and have taken it to alltech to get rebuilt
 
Whats wrong with it?

Unfortunately they are not very reliable over 1 bar boost. I think the large 56mm compressor puts a lot of stress on the bearings.
 
Oh a bit of play and thought since it was out and i have another car to use for the next few weeks why not.
