Hi Folks

I am on the verge of taking the plunge into Barchetta owbership and was wondering if anyone could pass on some buying advice.

My top price would be 3,500.

I'm looking out for the following -

Mileage (obviously)
variator/cambelt and when they were last replaced.
Condition of soft top (preferably mohair).
Has exhaust been replaced or is it still the original as I'm aware of the probs with the original exhaust.
service history

If necessary, I will be looking into a DTR exhaust and strut brace for the new family member. This would have to be within the 3,500 budget.

Can anyone offer me any more advice or obvious things to look into that I haven't thought of.

Cheers for now.

Jon

Just look at the paint job, check everything lines up, no paint fade.

Open the hood to see the state of the engine.

Look at the floor plan under the car to see if it's OK.

No rattles when starting the car, make sure the engine is stone cold when you start her up.

All hood gromits are ok.

Ask the owner to drive it 1st to see how they drive, this tells you how it have been treated. I abused my B and the engine let me know it. Red lamba sensor all the time!!!

Cam belt changed at 40K as it's a Varable Valve.

Good luck....(y)

A rattly cam variator is not the end of the world though, you can use it as a good bargaining tool, and as long as you have the camblocks the job is very easy. Simon.
