Tuning what to do with my 1108

riiiiight

ive been given a FREE 1108 engine, which im going to collect at some point next week...
gives me something to tinker with in the garage, so i thought "why not"

90k miles on it, the only things it comes without are a gearbox, and an inlet and exhaust manifold.
ive got a Uno inlet manifold which im going to bore out before putting on, might also buy a CSC or Supersprint exhaust mani for it.

now im trying to decide what else to do with it?

is it worth boring it out to like an 1150?
or should i just buy things like a punto 75 head, etc...
also, anyone got any other ideas?

chip, cam, lightened flywheel, dremel the head, clean the valves, skim the head, change all the gaskets, kv8's,

Guess would be good time to learn about the engine via stripping it apart .

thats what im planning on doing.

i know how engines work, and what just about everything does as i had to do basic engineering as part of my aviation studies btec

but i just like the idea of taking it apart and having a look at everything

picked it up today, is currently still in the boot as ive just got back from leeds and am knackered

am thinking motorbike throttle bodies, could this be done?

of corse it can have a search for ITB's it gets done all the time.

i have four r1 tb's waiting to go on the next engine

tbh id weigh it in and add a tad of cash to it and get a 1242 only because insurance will go up with mods anyways and a 1242 is a much better starting point. ;-) you can do all the same mods to a 1.1 but you will then meet a 1.2 and its just going to upset you lol

i understand its free. and if you want another free one you can have my old one.. .

think about it all the money on mods for the 1.1 spend £100 more and you have the 1.2 too. think its worth it tbh. £100is the best power per £ ive herd off. next to that is the chip.

it all comes down to what you want to do, yes you will get more power from a 1242 but its what every one does, dare to be different, if you want to try and find out exactly what sort of power can be got from an N/A 1108, see if you can make it as powerful (or close to) as what most people get out of the 1242

I would say that if you are thinking about seriously tuning this dont bother as the money you spend as already suggested would get a 1.2 start. I would either use it as a practice engine to learn to port and polish or see how clean and shiney you can make it and sell it on.
