Hi all,

the fronts on my GP 1.2 are at 3mm, so have been advised they have 2k left on them. Called a few of the tyre joints and prices from £120 to £160. Told the girl at the dear place it was'nt a Ferrari I had on the dearest quote.

Get this,

spoke to one place and the guy said £120 for 2 Pirellis P3000 ? called another bloke he said £110. Called the other guy reduced to £105. Called the second guy back GET THIS reduced now to £100 !

He then told me that I shouldn't be playing garages off against each other. JOG ON !!!This was after he put the phone on hold ran across to the first guy then back.(Can't be sure of this but think it took place.)

Anyhow my money and I like everyone else want the best value for it.

Prices for various brands start from 45quid-ish and you can pay over 150 a corner. I have run some 45quid Sumo Firenzas on the front for 17000 miles and there is a bit left to go yet, I have no hesitation in considering the same again.

Thanks for the replies guys. Bridgestones on the car since new. Someone mentioned Firestone at good price, would they be okay ?:) Don't have a great cash flow at present as no 1 and no 2 sons birthdays are this month

I used these people last time, they undercut all the local kwik-**it and independant outfits on the OEM tyres and did the job on my drive the next day. They showed up when they said they would and did the job in 20 mins.....I am not one who is easily pleased but on this occasion I was very impressed, so much so I actually made the guy a cuppa and gave him a Kit-kat..............I even thought about giving him a tip :D
I cant recommend them enough.

being the inquisitive person that i am i phoned Bridgestone as some garages had been saying "what do you want those for you can get a bridgestone XXX for £XX" anyhow they came straight back and said they recommend the 250's...

Bridgestone Praised in new Independent Tyre Test

The Bridgestone B250 has been labelled a "top-performing all-rounder" in a new independent test carried out by Auto Express 15 makes of tyre were entered in the magazine's 2006 Tyre Test, with experts assessing the rubber in a variety of disciplines including wet handling, rolling resistance, and dry handling - with the Bridgestone tyre scoring an impressive overall 98.8 per cent rating.

"We are obviously delighted with the results of this test," said Andy Lane, consumer marketing manager at Bridgestone UK. "The Auto Express test is very comprehensive and well-respected, and every year all tyre manufacturers await the results to see how they have fared. To receive the 'recommended' seal of approval from the magazine is a great achievement."

The Bridgestone B250 features large grooves, a high sipe density, and a high void ratio in the centre of the tyre to aid wet performance, while solid shoulder blocks ensure excellent dry handling, particularly when cornering. Although the tyre was available as an original equipment fitment on vehicles such as the Renault Clio and Toyota Yaris from 2005, it has this year been released into the replacement market.

its also worth noting you should have the new tires put on the BACK and the rear ones put on the front

Try the following websites

http://www.camskill.co.uk

http://www.mytyres.co.uk

http://www.blackcircles.com

The above three websites offer tyres at very reasonable prices.

I have a tyre headache at the moment as im undecided as to which ones to go for. Good Year Excellence and Eagle F1's have been highly rated but i think they are going to be out of my budget for my car at the moment. This leaves me with two other makes i have been looking at, Kumho KU 31 Ecta sort or toyo proxes T1 R.

I have read that toyo proxes are quite soft and don't last too long, but offer great grip, whilst the kumho's do get quite noisy but last very long.

Does anyone have first hand experience of Kumho's and Toyo proxes ?

The cars front wheel drive......why put the new tyres on the back??

Tyres can deteriorate with age and ned scrubbing in when new, putting them on the back scrubs them in slower but you arent on fresh tryes up front incase something were to go funny and the old tyres on the front means they get used before the rubber breaks up.

try part worn tyres too, you can get them dirt cheapwith hardly any wear

Sorry won't put part worn on any of my cars. Have heard that part worns have come from accident damaged cars. For a few quid more will buy new rubber. Was passing by a local tyre outfit the other day and the boy checked the tread on he front- 3mm on both so will replace them both next month. Will call around and haggle again. :)

I used to buy part worns all the time with my old cars simply because 4 new tyres cost more than the cars were worth lol. I never had any problems at all with them but wouldnt get them for my gp now as there are plenty of new tyres available cheap if you shop around. 2 new Dunlop SP 30s cost me £90 fitted 2 months ago, that was after playing one tyre place off against another until i got a quote i was happy with.

i just purchased 2 Pirelli zero nero 215/45 17'' tyres for £210 fully fitted and balanced up, in the comfort of my own home...they fill the arch nicely due to the design of the wall

I thought that problem was only in SOuth Africa.

I went and put a different size tyre on. so instead of a 175/65 i used a 195/55 and was half the price, looks better as well. will get pics to show you this weekend.

What price tyres?

Depends if you want to postpone the eventual half-a-day-out with your funeral director – I understand a burial is now priced around £2K+ or a cremation marginally cheaper.

Will the guy sporting Falken Ziex ZE512s please overtake or back-off 12.3m (… that’s 3 GP lengths).

"Three *205/55 R16 Vs fall short of standards we think acceptable: the Marangoni Vanto; the Nankang Ultra Sport NS-2; and, worst, the Falken Ziex ZE512 which needs 12.3m more to stop than the **best in this size."
Source: Tread carefully WHICH? Mar2007 (pp70-73)

* medium cars e.g. Ford Focus, Honda Civic, VW Golf
** Michelin Primacy HP, Pirelli P7, Bridgestone Turanzo ER300, Conti Premium Contact2
