Im a little confused. Up untill now I have thought that my car had the 999cc Fire carb engine. But when i bought the car i was told it was an injection engine. My car does have a carb (or atleast its what i call a carb, the thing that the air filter is joined onto..) and so surely its no injection (although maybe injection have both?? i dont know) ... but then today, i found the original air filter (i had lost it when i put in the greens air filter) and its got a fiat badge on it that says "Fuel Injection" on it. could this mean that my car is the fuel injection version? Also its the Fiat Uno IE ... i was told once that IE ment fuel injection.

Hei.

It's a kind of a compromise between a carburettor and an injection. It is called injection though, because the fuel is pumped in.

ahh so it is injection then. Always wondered that. When i buy stuff like engine cleaner etc should i get the Carb stuff or the injection stuff? cause stuff like Redex injection is probably intended for todays injection cars and not mine.. so would the carb redex work better?

Yup, it's the same thing as on my 55SX Punto (1.1-litre SPi fuel injection), it's basically a carb but instead of jets there's a single fuel injector to squirt fuel in. It's a bit more efficient than a carb, but it's an awkward complicated b**ch of a system to work on!
If you buy engine cleaner then go for injection-oriented stuff as it's specifically designed to clean injectors.

Yes the joys of injection, it may do lots of things??? but it really took what little edge there was off the uno 999cc fires' performance.
My old '88 carb fed uno gave 45-50mpg and was good for an indicated 95mph...my '92 IE can never better 40-42mpg and has less power...progess this was not. having said that emissions are better and interestingly the old uno is much cleaner running than our cinquecento and our 16v punto I can't work that out either.

Try to remove your kat and fit a direct pipe...then you'll see if injection is better than carburettor[8D]

I'll agree with all of that:
I think I've got the (Panda) CLX going OK.. quite happy with it.
Then I have a drive in the (Panda)CL [:0] No comparison:
the instant poke in the back from really low engine speeds - foot down, it goes.
You have to nurse the (injected) CLX, by comparison - gentle feeding in the throttle to let the ECU know you want acceleration, which happens eventually..

I suspect the engine on the CLX would last longer, due primarily to cleaner running, and less excess petrol down the bores when cold.
But that's acedemic anyway, as the CL has rusted to death, which is a terrible shame.

The old 903cc carb'd motor was surprisingly rapid once warmed up...I got 97mph out of my old 903cc Uno Formula, I was dead proud...and it never dropped below 50mpg even on motorway thrashes! Not bad for an old pushrod-n-carb motor dating from the 70's. Even if it was a bastard to start sometimes [xx(]
My current fuel-injected Punto 1.1 is faster and comfier than the Uno was, but it's very thirsty compared to the Uno B)

My 1.1 Uno ie engine also is really addicted to 95 octane.

95 octane?!?! That's just standard petrol in the UK!
