I have a Motorhome based on a 2.5td Ducato and have found a wire that wasn't connected to a solenoid under the fuel pump. The connector is very corroded so hasn't been connected for some time but i have no idea what the solenoid is there for. It is under the diesel pump, has a cable connected to its actuator which is then connected to a sprung arm, so would appear to turn something which then shuts when the solenoid is de-activated.

I have tried to get a photo to help but not that brilliant as lots in the way!

I'm guessing its for cold start. On the bosch pumps cold start advances the timing 5 degrees.

Sorry, not been on line for a couple of days but thanks for your replies. I will try and get a better photo on Saturday and check the colour of the wire.

Interesting idea about the cold start, have to say that I had no problem starting even at -2 degrees, though it was extremely smokey on start up but I understand that to be normal with the single glow plug fitted to this engine. I have to say that I had no idea that you could advance a diesel, how does it work? Is this connected to the fact you can tune a diesel via the diesel pump?

Thanks

Keith
