My sister is going to Tanzania in the summer and is wanting a good durable digital camera. She's got around £100-£120 to spend.

She Likes my Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T9 but I've told her she's not taking it abroad. Shes thinking of getting one of her own, but whilst the T9 is a good camera, shes a little accident prone.

I know there are more durable cameras on the market because I saw channel 5's Gadget show testing them, but can't for the life of me remember what they are.

A little help please. Thanks. Jon.

My Canon Ixus 60 is very good, small and takes SD cards which are dirt cheap (fiver for 2gb I think) (and has a rechargeable battery)

Now replaced by the Ixus 70 here (7MP)

Amazon.co.uk: Canon IXUS 70 Digital Camera - Silver (7.1MP, 3x Optical Zoom) 2.5" LCD: Electronics & Photo

£120 will buy the camera and a good card

The advantage of Canon over many others is the fact it has a viewfinder and not just a screen which can be useless in bright sunlight and chews battery life ;)

If going on safari, binoculars are a must too :)

had 3 Tesco Digital camera's before and all 3 have been returned. lol. Ruined my Skiing holiday when the camera blew up on charge

ha ha, I take my Canon 40D on holiday with me, I have a backpack just to keep it in... I had some retarded snowboarder shove me off the side of a cliff my backpack ended up 30ft beneath me, I was convinced I had destroyed my camera, then I remembered... I forgot to pack it that morning, how's that for luck

did make me wonder what i was skiing around with a mostly empty backpack for...

I got myself a fuj F40fd a few weeks ago for around £95 off play i think. Great camera and is fantastic in low light. If you have more to spend look at the F50fd as well.

and yes, im a fuji fan-boy :p
