What a nice find

mY mk2 punto has got the original head unit in and is basicly fubar, i can get a radio station on it and my speakers work when they want to, i decided that today i would go and check the connections of my speakers, first i checked the back of the head unit and it seems that its the connection on the head unit. I then decided to double cheak the speaker connections just incase, i poped open the covers to see these little beauties.

now i guess they are NOT standard fit and forgive me if im wrong. they are fusion 240w 6.5" componant subwoofers with junction box's and tweeters, nice little find that has made me smile today :slayer:

Previous owner had a different head unit, put the original back in to sell car, didn't bother to connect properly, and removing those speakers was too much trouble.

With a new head unit yourself, big smiles.

Found the same thing myself

My mk2 has some decent pinoer speakers in - but a shagged tape player!

Quickly swapped and i had decent music

However the mk2b has ruined me because i now have a 7 speaker setup and the sound is godly compared to factory...

No wonder your having issues. Those wires hanging out the side are probably getting trapped which will cause the sporadic working.
Also being bunged in with 1 1/2 screws wont be doing any good.
