Technical weekend doing 5mpg

the front pipe broke on my 1999, 20valve marea weekend, after replacing the pipe the car broke down, basically it ran out of petrol, it is only doing 5mpg, any ideas?

Ok sorry but what pipe, fuel line, brake pipe, exhaust manafold? Dont think there is a part called a front pipe explain where it is and what is does then we'll know what you mean!

How do you know its doing 5mpg? Tried:

ALso did the car brake down, ie mechanical fault, or did it run out of petrol? Do you suspect a leak?

I suspect you mean exhaust frontpipe? And I suspect you have a duff or dirty lambda sensor - good luck finding one in the current climate

Sounds more like when the exhaust has broken it has damaged or unplugged the llamda sensor.
