Bonjour: I am trying to fix my vapor lock issues on my 71 500L by replacing the OEM Weber 26 with a Weber 28 that has a vapor return line. Here are my questions that I hope one of my good buddies out there have answers: does the Weber 28 bolt up on the same mounting holes as the 26? It looks like the air cleaner elbow has a different mounting, has anyone done this? Is there a different Elbow that needs to be attached? Part suppliers for the elbow?

Thanks much in advance for any help!

The 28IMB Weber fits onto the same manifold as the '26'. However, the air cleaner elbow IS slightly different--you may have to play around with the various tubing that goes between the carb and the air cleaner.

With respect I do not think that changing the carb will solve what you describe as vapour lock issues. Either your carb is good or not and the problem may well be elsewhere.

Thanks. I am assuming the elbow is specific to the 28. Will look for the right part thanks again

Well you may be right, it is a bit of an experiment. I installed an electric fuel pump new Weber carb electronic distributor et cetera but after 30 minutes of driving or after engine shut down it takes about 20 minutes before the engine re-starts in classic vapor lock symptoms. Saw the 28 used with a return vapor line when visiting UK,and talking to other 500 owners with some issues, so that is the plan. My experience is English (MG JAGUAR) and not vapor lock so this is all new to me. Open to all suggestions. Thanks

Sorting through some parts I bought recently I found on of the elbows, in fact all of the inlet parts if you are still looking :)

thanks! will let you know, i think i have one in the parts bin. cheers j
