I have a fault with the passenger seat, it won't slide back when the lever is pulled to get in the back, the Fiat dealer says it may not be covered under warranty and are being very vague. Is it covered? I have hardly used the back seat so I am surprised its not working already! Any ideas?

I've recently discovered that the year 3 warranty on my 2012 500 is shoddy.

Luckily my dealer (FIAT not drug...lol) sorted the water leak for me(y)

The Panda we have on order seemingly offers the same level of cover in year three......

Good luck with your issues.

Are you sure it's faulty? :)

I seem to recall the method of moving the front seat back to get access to the rear on our 500 was a bit of a PITA until you mastered it.

Acually it moves forward to give access to the rear.

It's a PITA even after you've mastered it.

To gain access to the rear, do the following:

1. Lift the handle to unlock the seat back, then release the handle and push down on the top of the seat towards the front of the car until the seat locks down.

2. Push the base of the seat forward to slide the seat fully forward.

To reverse the process:

1. Do not touch the handle yet. Pull on the bottom of the front of the seat back to move the folded up seat backwards to the position it was in before (this is the seat memory).

2. Lift the handle to release the seat back, then release the handle & pull the seat back upwards until it locks.

You can avoid all this hassle and also save a few thousand pounds by buying a Panda instead ;).

That's useful to know, I seem to get it to work sometimes, but not others. Hopefully it will work better now I know than in meant to slide it back first.

I also got caught out by the 3rd year of the warranty not covering much at all. Especially annoying as my girlfriend was told at the 2 year service to come back in a couple of weeks if the exhaust was still rattling, obviously by then it wasn't covered. Surprisingly enough we won't be using that dealer again.

As someone who has had work done under the 3rd year warranty without any issues, it is a little bit of a misnomer that the 3rd year warranty doesn't cover much. Clearly, service items, brake pads/discs/exhausts etc won't be covered, however door handles coming off, boot micro switch, rotten condenser and many other items are covered. I would suggest however that some dealers have different interpretations of what is covered and what is not, and there I think lies the problem.

One of the things that catches some people out, is if they buy the car as a second owner within the first couple of years from a private seller or non franchised dealer, they often 'forget' to purchase the 3rd year warranty from Fiat. It did used to cost £27 and in my own case on our first 500, paying the money saved us over 1k in repairs which were carried out under warranty. It can be a costly mistake for some not to just spend the 27 quid, sadly however despite the fact some owners are ok with forking out a few grand on a replacement car, 27 quid is just too much for some!

Had ours from new & didn't know about the £27. Dealer told us it pretty much just covered the engine blowing up, so didn't even bother trying to claim for micro switch, just fixed it myself.
