Bad as this was, similar things have happened in this country as well. On some occasions the vandalism was aimed at Jewish graves and sometimes it was just a case of smash the nearest stone regardless of who was buried there. Not entirely sure if this was worse than brass plaques being stolen from gravestones and war memorials for profit in this country.
Still, I suppose it stands to reason, people like this rarely like picking on people or things that can hit back.
