valve timing on newbie x19

Hi can anyone help out please.
The old engine I had in my veloce1500cc x19 1988. The valve timing was 1 mark in advance of the marker on the cam wheel at 5 degrees btdc. However, I replaced it with an american fuel inj. engine. I have set it to 1 mark in advance and 5 degs btdc but when it heats up it's coughing and spluttering missing eventually stalls. When cold it re starts and goes like a dream but warms up and then the same thing happens!:bang:
