Some people do talk ********.
No, I don't mean the Telegraph article!

We are slowly destroying the planet, which is the real reason Star Trek et al are fictional. The Earth will not be here by then! Possibly.

i cannot see anything fundamentally wrong with the article.

Seems reasonably informed and well blanced.

what got the original postee so upset?

DONT WE FACE ENOUGH CHARGES?

"From road tax to parking and congestion charges, motorists face a whole range of new penalties based on the fuel consumption and carbon emissions of their cars, such that a single extra gramme of CO2 could cost hundreds of pounds per year. But does anyone really believe the figures on which the charges are based? Andrew English reports"

i think its wrong that they can just invent ideas to make more money for the state.

thats charges we already pay...
just in case you aren't up on the current road taxing system, we pay per litre a tax(at the pumps) so if you get crap mpg, then you pay lots in tax at the pump. The other part, is that our road tax disk cost is based on CO2 emission bandings. I actually like the *idea*, since tiny, efficient little cars like smarts and citroen C1's etc pay summat daft like £30 while folk with less efficient engines pay more. I am concerned that its not weighted quite right though, since i have to pay £130 a year for my diesel skoda, despite the fact it AVERAGES over 50mpg.

In fact last week i drove to Germany and back, covering some 1300 miles, and i burned 115 litres of fuel(yes, i was counting, and no, that doesn't make me sad). Thats 54MPG kiddies! Consider also, that in Holland my cruising speed was 75mph, and in Germany my cruising speed was 90mph, so i could have done better, if i'd been going slower (say 60-70mph, lol)
