Firstly, all Uno shells from around 1985 onwards are the same. They all have the mounting points to take parts from any model, from lowly 45 models up to fire breathing turbos. The only exceptions are the later turbos that used a top link gear change, though it's possible to convert the earlier bottom change gearbox shell to take a top change.

It isn't that hard to convert a lesser model Uno into a turbo if you have experience in dealing with old cars. You will need EVERYTHING from the turbo donor to make the turbo conversion work - engine, gearbox, brakes, master cylinder/ servo, pedal box with brake cross linkage, suspension, inter-cooler, oil cooler, exhaust, radiator, expansion tank, fuel tank, fuel lines, wiring looms, ECU's, drive shafts, gear change linkages, instrument pod etc. etc. etc. You will also need to be able to rebuild some parts as you will be dealing with an old car that will need parts replacing/ rebuilt. You will also need plenty of space to work on the car and also plenty of space to store parts whilst you are doing the conversion. And obviously, you will need a good selection of tools, including trolley jacks, axle stands and lifting gear for removing/ fitting the engine and gearbox.

As Cha40 says, you basically need EVERYTHING from a donor UT, and as Biz says your best bet is to find a rusty Uno Turbo as a donor. However, they are starting to become rare now and prices, even for rotten examples, are creeping up as a result. I'd also recommend that you get hold of a Haynes manual (the earlier orange version is good for the mk1) and read up the supplement section. This contains a lot of specific details about the turbo models and will give you an idea about what's involved.

Whatever you do, don't think you can just drop a Uno Turbo engine and gearbox into a lesser model Uno and that's all that's required. The turbo Unos are comprehensively reworked over the standard models to cope with the increased power and performance.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do and let the forum know how you get on.
