hi all, i want to uprated my turbo on my 20vt any recommendation?

i want quick spool up and to spend £500-£600.

For that money, you can afford to re-con your existing turbo to something like a GTI-R spec, so a little less quick to spool up than standard, but will hold more than 1 bar at the redline  and you can get about 300BHP with the right mods. You'd have to phone up a reputable turbo reconditioners and discuss it though.
Or you could just recon your current turbo with a 360 journal bearing, so it is a bit more durable. To buy a new hybrid is something like:

GTI-R £850
Superspool £900

..and they don't do exchange like they used to :(

Are 16v turbochargers garret T3s and 20v turbochargers garret T28s? If so why have they done this? Surely the 5 cylinder engines will spool up a T3 faster?

Yeah that's right. No, Fiat worked with Garrett for the coop's T28 (it's a T28B to be precise) to optimise early spool-up. The T3 would have been more laggy, as it is on the 16vt, making for more of a wait..wait..wait...BOOM type experience as opposed to the 20VT's more linear (albeit still savage) delivery.

Right so will a T3 from a 16v be a "plug n play" type turbo if bolted straight onto a 20v? And will it bolt straight on?
