Hi I have a 1992 Fiat Ducato 2.5td motorhome and would like to upgrade the engine. I would be happy for engine to be removed and parts inside upgraded if possible and any other upgrades that might be possible like intercooler or turbo. Does anyone here work on these engines?

Ideally obtain a rusty 2.8 Ducato pre Common Rail ECU controlled with turbo and intercooler including all the hoses and mountings, much the easiest route to go.

But wouldn't I get about the same power by adding an intercooler, upgrading turbo and increasing the boost. I heard somewhere as long as the engine temperature can be kept down the 2.5.td is a very strong engine is that correct?

They are both strong engines as long as not over revved and oil ,filters, cambelts regularly changed as required.
However the bigger engine in a 1997 Ducato Maxi came standard @122Hp and with no ECU to worry about!
I fitted one in a boat and kept adjusting the Bosch injector pump and the turbo boost on that standard engine until I got almost the same performance as the original Volvo Penta 150Hp V6 petrol engine, but with less than half the fuel consumption and ran it for four years totally reliably using a water cooled intercooler.
All this was using the original standard turbo and Bosch diesel pump, just by adjusting them, so no extra expensive big turbos etc.:)
