I have been doing a bit of digging around and the information I now have is that online MOT history shows the on the 16/08/2008 the mileage was 56,194 miles, the last MOT which was done on the 14/07/2009 has the recorded mileage of 56,990 and so that online MOT evidence would say it has done around the 56,000 mark.
I have been in touch with the MOT station to ask how they source the mileage for an MOT and he told me that the tester has to physically see the mileage to write it down or else they put down all zeros, so the MOT station is saying it the mileage is around 56,000.
The dealer also of course claims it is 56,000, the dealer thinks that what
has happend is that when he fitted an aftermarket CD player after the MOT that he has somehow buggered up the speedo mileage reading and that it displaying around 56,000 before hand, remember I am seeing the mileage reading through the use of a torch, but it is working as when I test drived it to check to see if the mileage went up it did.
The dealer also claims that he has had the vehicle on his forecourt for 6
months, I did some digginga round on the cars adverts and was able to source an image with Exif information which showed the advert photos was taken in Jan 2009, which would mean that if the vehicle has not been used since then, then the previous owners did 91,000 miles from august 2008 to jan 2009, seems a bit impossible.
So all the outside evidence does say that the vehicle has done around 56,000 miles, however what I see with my own eyes is around 147,000.
The dealer has taken the vehicle back ina nd he is getting an auto
electrician to look at it as he swears blind the 56,000ish mileage is what
it has done, he has lent us a courtesy car and he is also getting the auto
electrician to ring us to let us know what he has done to sort it out.
My wife thinks he is upfront, I tend not to trust anyone 100%, but as I say the historical evidence seems to back up his mileage claims, it is just what I see that throws a big question mark and can the electronic mileage go to such random numbers as it had when I first noticed it 147,303?
And of course how can one fix it if it is an anomily?
