my temp gauge is up & down like a kangaroo on a pogo stick & i have not heard my rad fan kick in today, is this just a buggered thermostat or is it something more sinister

Mine is doing exactly the same thing, except my radiator IS leaking. Just check your water level to be on the safe side.

Mine is doing the same!
Had an airlock...so the guy bled the thing, and heater is blowing warm air again...but now, the temp. is very high when im idling, and reasonably low/normal when driving!
The guy i take it to recommended a new thermostat...and have repeatedly thumped the dash - what do you guys think?

radiator fan switch
the switch is located at bottom left of radiator, it should switch the fan on when the temp is about 88.c. you won't need the fan on when moving but idling you do need the fany. to test, get your engine realy hot and listen for the fan cutting in. the gauge will drop down to normal then. one way to test the fan motor isull off the connector at the switch and bridge the wires with ignition on. the fan will run if it is ok
