General Uno45 bites the dust

Arc,

Hmm, it does look conclusively toasted... Bad luck!

Just a note of caution. I read once that when certain types of plastic 'rubber' burn, they release highly toxic hyd:ROFLMAO:uoric acid. Actually, it was in a FIAT Punto handbook. So you may like to wear gloves as you handle all those burnt bits, because the warning I read was truly dire!

I'm guessing the bonnet got dented at the front in the rush to rip it open?

Do you think you'll fix it yourself?

Fix it? I doubt the insurance company will let you have it back... because of the fire damage, it should be crushed (as it is a health risk, not because it's an UNO). But good luck if they do let you have it back...

Also burns from hydro-wats-it flouride can be treated only with amputation as far as I know!

no intention what so ever of fixing it, like i say - it was my stepmums car - and was a totally bog standard uno45, its not worth the time repairing it.

the bonnet was dented when it was crow-barred open yeah - and then jumped on by moi so it'd stay shut!

still waiting for the insurance man to come have a look..

Good to hear, yeah I wasn't kidding about the health warning!

I think here in NZ there are no such concerns about the insurance company letting you have a car back - you 'tender' for it, and pick it up from the insurance inspector's depot. I know a few cars that have been saved from such things as fires... Of course in the UK the Uno would be worth nothing anyway (as discussed in another thread :) so yeah, it's for the best that it's gone - sad though :-(

Hi there,
Bad luck, Uno's are becoming rarer. I'm surprised nobody has come up with the jokes about the Uno "FIRE" Engine. Time to move on and buy a cheap Punto. Keep the forum informed as to the cause of fire. Bad luck again.
